I went into preterm labor 34 weeks...
It's been a very scary past week. I was discharged yesterday from Good Sam and am home now on strict bed rest. I spent my 27th bday in the hospital.
I went for my weekly appt last week and didn't even know I was contracting at first. Just felt a little discomfort by my ribs. Thank god I was at my doctors office when it happened, I started contracting every 5 minutes. I was sent immediately to the hospital. As soon as my doctor told us to head straight to the hospital, I lost it, I started crying, I was so scared. By the time we got to the hospital I was contracting every 2 minutes and could definltely feel them! They first started me on IV fluids, that didn't work...next I was given an injection to stop the contractions, that didn't work....then I was put on magnesium intravenously. This drug has the nastiest side effects. It made me extremely sick but I was explained all the effects before hand. I couldn't even get up out of bed without falling over. I still continued to contract a lot, my bp dropped really low and my heart was racing in the middle of the night. As a precaution I had to be given steroid injections for the baby's lungs. We pretty much thought I was going to deliver over the weekend since nothing was working. Finally after a couple of days the contractions slowed down a little but they sill were coming more than they wanted. I was discharged yesterday and am now home on bed rest and still am contracting :(. My cervix was closed as of yesterday. My doctor did a sono yesterday and I have a lot of fluid plus the baby is measuring 6.5 plus lbs and I have a smaller frame. (I have GD which causes both problems). I'm taking an oral medication now to help the contractions but am still very uncomfortable of course. All I can do is just lay around and hope he holds on a couple more weeks so I make it to full term. My doctor said if I do deliver now he will be fine, esp. because I was given the steroids for his lungs.
Please pray for me that I make it a couple more weeks. It takes so much discipline to lay in bed all day long contracting. I'm still in shock that in a blink of an eye everything around you can change so quickly.

That must have been so scary!
I didn't even think they stopped labor at 34 weeks....maybe it's different for me bc i'm having twins?

OMgosh, I am glad you and baby are ok. Any reason this started happening? That really scares me, not knowing if I am having a contraction or not!! So I can imagine how scared you must have been!
 the meds work, and you hold off a bit longer.

I'm glad everything is ok!! Just a few more weeks. Most OBs won't stop labor after 37 weeks these days so you just need to hol dout a few more!!

Robin, I'm so glad you are home!!! I think I may try to stop by on Saturday with the little man. Of courses we don't expect you to entertain us  Just figured we'd give you some company.

As a preemie mommy I know how scary it can be. Stay off those feet and try to relax as much as you can--sleep works wonders so try to darken the room and mellow out.
Also my DD came at 32.5 weeks and got the steroids. She is doing amazing. So your doc is right just in case you do deliver. But praying you dont

Hang in there. i know how hard bedrest can be thankfully i only had to do it for 2 weeks. I couldnt imagine longer. YOur almost there. Ill keep you and the family in my prayers.
