I wasn't looking forward to today
My daughter, son in law and new granddaughter will be heading back home after spending over 2 weeks with us. We don't know when we'll see each other again. They live in Alaska so it's not a quick or inexpensive plane ride to visit. I'm so sad, I'm going to miss them so much.
The good news is SIL really likes it here in NY and they have "talked" about coming back to the east coast. But it's just talk right now and who knows if or when it will really come to be.

physical distance can't ever break that bond. Even though my MIL lives in Israel, I feel even closer to her than my mom
Maybe it's time to invest in a good webcam? 
P.S. Something that helps for us to feel "connected" is that Dh bought me my own website a few years ago. Every week I upload new pics of us so MIL and BIL can see what we're up to every week, and so MIL can keep a watchful eye on the little grumpy monster

It definately is hard especially when it is such a large distance but I have found that speaking on the phone daily does help 
Definately invest in a webcam so you can see your granddaughter!!!

A webcam is a great, relatively inexpensive way to see your granddaughter every day!
I'm sorry they are leaving so soon. It really stinks when family winds up being so spread out.

Thank you everyone, I appreciate all the hugs and suggestions.
A webcam is a great idea, we'll work on that.
As for what took them to Alaska. DD went there for school, met and fell in love with a local. SIL was born and raised there. Right now they have a home on 5 acres and she doesn't want to give that up for apartment life in NY. If one day they can find something in NY with as many or more acres than I think they'll be back. Its so hard. I grew up with most of my family in another country, and married a man whose whole family is in Israel. Its hard, but it just makes you appreciate your time together all the more.
BTW, you have a beautiful family. Congratulations.

i am so sorry - my sister lives in CA and it's so hard for my mom when she goes back after a visit.
