I start a new job 2morrow night and I'm freakin out
Last night I went out to dinner at a cute lil Italian restaurant. We saw a sign on the window for waitresses needed so once I saw that they don't use those huge trays to bring out the food, I inquired since i have summers off and need money with the lil on the way. I didn't expect to get hired on the spot. My concern is when they brought out my food, the smell of the broccoli made me almost vomit....my husband had to quickly get it off my plate and across the table so I could eat. Is this going to be a problem?? i don't want to be dry heaving while bringing people out their food! I'm so scared now- what was I thinking!!! What would you do?? I'm freakin out!

That's a tough one. How far along are you? The smell of certain foods would send me racing to the restroom, until I was like 20 weeks so waitressing would have been a huge no no for me.

I'll be 8 weeks on Friday! And YES- the smell of foods make me very nauseous!! I honestly didn't expect to get hired on the spot!! I thought I'd have to time to figure this out! and now I'm so scared!

do they know you are pregnant?
I don't know if a job around food makes sense if you are always nauseous when smelling it.

Have you waited tables before? That's a tough job, and you're preggo... You may be ok for awhile but going into your third trimester it will definitely be awkward for you and the customers, and physically uncomfortable.
ETA: You should tell your employer. Kitchens get VERY slippery and there are a lot of hazards to waiting tables.

I have waited tables before but it's been over 2 years since my last waitressing job. It would just be a temporary summer job till school started back up.
Thanks for reminding me of the slippery, gross kitchens- forgot all about that!
I'm going to talk it over with my Dh and make a decision tonight if I should go through with this.

Maybe a retail job would be safer and better for the summer? Just an idea...

Oh boy.......
I don't knwo what to tell you. I waited table in college and it was the hardest job I had! On your feet all day, constantly moving. That is NOT a job I would want to have pregnant especially with food aversions....................
CAn you find somethign else? I think it will be really rough. Also, your not suppose to be lifting a lot while pregnant. So even if your not lifting big heavy trays with plates what about busing the table? Do you have to do that? Or any of the prep work in the back? I was always lifting things when I worked in a restaraunt

I wouldn't do it!!! I know one of the first things my ObGyn told me was to avoid being on my feet for long amounts of time at work.
