Now that she's safely ensconced within the confines of a treatment center in Malibu, acquaintances are coming out in droves claiming they've witnessed Britney Spears' drug use.
For the first time, people who know Britney are speaking on the record about her drug use from as far back as 2003.
"When I was around her, she took Ecstasy," Amanda Alexander, the sister of Britney's first husband, Jason, tells In Touch Weekly. Amanda, 21, says she also witnessed the singer using cocaine in their hometown of Kentwood, Louisiana.
Another hometown friend, Kent Smith, who's known Britney for "at least 10 years," says he partied with her three years ago at Club 360 in New Orleans. "She does like to party," Kent tells In Touch. "I've been there when she's done Ecstasy and cocaine."
Toward the end of her marriage to Kevin Federline, a major stoner, Britney returned to using hardcore drugs.
According to a pal, the couple got into a huge fight on the night of his CD release party last Halloween. "Kevin was mad because he knew she was high on coke," a source tells In Touch.
"The divorce really threw her into a deep depression," says a friend. "She felt like a failure and wanted to show everyone how desirable she still is."
In addition to the cocaine and ecstasy, Spears was also drinking heavily and taking lots of prescription pills, like Paxil (an antidepressant) and Xanax (for anxiety).
Unfortunately, the partying overtook the parenting. "So many people love Britney," an insider says. "They're all in crisis mode." Her mom has resorted to tough love, even taking away her credit cards while her dad, Jamie, a recovering alcoholic, is also "trying to get her on track," says a pal.
Thankfully, for now, Britney is on the right track and in rehab.
Hopefully she will use this time away from the spotlight wisely, unlike certain other celebrity rehabers.

Doesn't surprise me at all. I think holly-weird is a difficult place to be...I hope she gets better soon.

It looks like she left the size srtip on the back of her pants....
She is such a total waste right now....she needs to look at herself from 5 years ago and get a reality check.

no matter how hard you try to help someone, if they don't want help for themselves, there's nothing you can do... contrary to the way she has been acting lately... she is an adult.
Hopefully she'll get her act together.

Okay,
1 I have left that on more times than I care to admit and my life is in perfect order. IF that is what it is, big freakin deal, it happens.
2 I find it strange that they are all coming out of the woodwork now. Why ???? My guess is that it is a great opportunity to make some money off another persons misfortune.

First, I don't think anyone can "help" someone who doesn't want help. You can point it out but in the end, that person isn't going to do anything until they're ready.
Second, real friends don't talk about your drug exploits to the press -- even when you're in rehab. They keep their mouth shut or if they absolutely can't they should express support & love, not more fodder.

I completely agree, but there was no press about anyone doing anything but staring at her......I would have called CPS or the police letting them know something was going on with her. Who cares about her career anymore, it's practically over anyway.....

unlike these so called "friends" above who are "coming clean", I doubt her parents or siblings are going to talk to US Weekly or any other media plug about how they "tried to help britney" and "what they're doing to get her back ontrack".
Unfortunately for celebrities, when you decide to take those steps to become a celebrity, it's like handing your sole over to the world.. not much is left private, esp. at Britney's celebrity status.
I've also never been in the position where a family member has been in the shape Britney is in, but I still don't think I'd have the "balls" to call the cops on a loved one. Part of it is probably denial, I wouldn't doubt it if her family is waiting for her to "snap out of it". Is that smart? No, but who knows the real story about whats going on.
I think we all need to keep in mind that we don't know every single detail of the girls life, we know what media whores choose to air.
