I just saw the news story on Nix Mary and I'm in tears
How do we have people in this world that would do that to a child???? Why didn't anyone do anything? I know the neighbors and family members had to know something was going on, why not say anything? I'm so upset right now.

I can't even stomach it. I am sick over it. To think in this city, a child suffered to that extent. A child in the public school system who suffered that much..God Bless them for calling and trying to help.

7 year old....beaten, raped and killed by stepfather..it went on and on. School reported it twice to authorities. First time, it was cleared..second call still be investigated. Tied to a chair, starved...it is so horrible

I too could not listen to the news report and only was able to read half the article in the paper, because it made me so sick and so sad,.
How any parent can hurt a child I will never ever ever in my life understand....they deserve to rot in He LL!!!

Its so sad. I worked in a public SD as a social worker. CPS has your hands tied as sad as it may sound...they either take the case or they dont. I think what happened is awful and if we do not fix the system this will keep happening, (I am sure it is while we speak). Unless the child has physical evidence of abuse these cases are mostly watched or dismissed. I noticed alot of these stories pop up in groups as well. Like you heard about the guns in schools at one time, yates and smith killing their children, etc.... This case reminds me of Joel Steinberg? and hedda Nussbaum a few yrs back.

You are very right but I have to say that some of the fault lies with ACS and CPS workers. I worked in the system for a number of years before leaving. I was once told be a ACS worker, after I reported a child being hit with an extention cord, that, quote unquote, "unless it leaves a permanent mark, there is nothing wrong with it."
Another case, CPS had been given several notes written by the mother of a 4 year old where she stated that she controlled him by straping him in a carseat and sedating him with Nyquil. This is on top of the names she called him. CPS was contacted 4x by his school but didnt' become involved until over 50% of his body was covered in 3rd degree burns and went untreated over an entire weekend.

what I wrote was that I blame 99% on CPS (ACS). I do think its their fault and I know what you mean with your quoted statement. The same thing happened to me "Unless you see a bruise or mark...no case" Its BS. The reason I give the 99 percent to CPS is because they are doing the investigation...the rest of the blame belongs to the public, govt, etc...

In this case, the neighbors could have and should have done something. It makes me so mad! This little girl's life could have been spared had someone bothered to interupt their life for her!!!!

That is disgusting, as a mother I cant begin to imagine how that girls mother let that go on!!! at least that poor little thing is at peace
