i hate knowing
i hate knowing that within 2 weeks, 25% of my coworkers will lose their jobs right before the holidays.
i hate that i can't give them any warning - especially the ones with kids.
and not only do i feel incredibly lucky and guilty to know that i will be spared, i hatehatehate that this has to happen at all - to them, to anyone.
to anyone who's been laid off -

I can empathize with you. I am so sorry you have to deal with this and I feel so bad for your co-workers, and everyone else, who will be affected by layoffs.

I've been in that position many times. Absolutely sucks - certainly not as bad as being told, but to act normal while hearing people discuss their vacation plans, their mortgages, or worse...hearing their parent is terminally ill.

BTDT. People thinking they have a job and spending money for gifts for the Holidays. Then the blow right before the Holidays.
I find it so inhuman and cruel.

Awful... I've been in that position one too many times. At a previous job I often felt like the person leading someone to the executioner. I always had to sign the person in coming to my boss' office, ride with them in the elevator and escort them to his office. It always made me  and I would make sure I wasn't at my desk afterwards because I just couldn't face them.
We also just went through a huge layoff two weeks ago here, it was so hush hush though. People knew it was coming, but it was so hush hush that managers of people didn't know until AFTER their folks were let go, that they were.

I'm in the same boat now. And now it's worse, because I have info about certain people and of course I can't say anything. Some of these people are my friends.

That is horrible. I've been in that position a few times. It just rips you up.
Their was one person that they made her work the entire day and when her day was almost over the boss called her into his office. I was so upset because I had lunch with that person earlier in the day and she honestly had no idea it was coming. I couldnt say anything.
Knowing I think is worse then not knowing

I've been in that position and it is a killer. It was worse when they found out and knew that I must've known. They were upset with me for not telling them, but I couldn't risk my job by telling anyone.
I empathize with you.
