I got mastitis and am sick as a dog!
I was trying to wean from pumping, my goal was 3 months and this weekend my DD will be 3 months. I tried going from 2x a day to once a day and it obviously didn't work. I am in such pain and have the worst flu like symptoms, 101 fever, can't eat etc.
Anyone ever have this? I just started antibiotics but was wondering how the heck do I stop pumping? The doctor said I did the right thing and just do it again in a few days but I am so scared of this pain subsiding and then starting up again.
Also, my infected breast has what feels like a golf ball in it and i can't release it. I have done everything they say to do. Will this just go away?
Thanks for any help and advice you can offer. It is crazy trying to take care of a 12 week old baby with a fever, chills and aches and pains.

I got mastitis when I tried to stop and it was the most awful feeling ever. I decided that since I was already trying to stop, I'd stop cold turkey since I was going to be taking the antibiotics anyways.
Yes, the golf ball goes away.
Take sudafed (it dries out your milk supply) and do not let warm water hit your breasts when you're showering. I pumped a little bit to ease the pain (2-5 mins). I didn't try it but a lot of people recommended cold cabbages on your breasts.

I think it took about 24 hrs on the meds...I got mastitis FOUR TIMES (twice with each child)   I feel your pain it is awful!
I would pump for max 5 minutes just to relieve the golf ball but not enough for your body to want to make more!

It took a day on the pills for the pain/flu to go away.

I had the same awful symptoms with my mastitis - I couldn't even pick up DS.
the antibiotics cleared it all up, with the warm compress and massaging. I wasn't trying to wean at that point, so I don't have any advice.

My mass was the size of a lemon and growing, it was HOT and so painful. I had 102 fever. They actually made me go to the ER and get a few rounds of IV antibiotics. It helped pretty fast.
