i feel like im losing my mind

olivia has been so bad the last couple of days. with the day light savings time her sleep was screwed up. didnt go to sleep til 1230 on sunday 1130 monday night and then i eliminated her nap yesterday to get her back on track. she was down no problem by 8pm and woke up at 830 am. she gave me a hard time napping today and is wild in her bed right now. taking the sheet off the bed saying she doesnt want dora on the bed. the other night she took off her pj's and proceeded to urinate on them becuase she didnt want to wear those pj's. we hada playdate today and she hit the little girl and pushed her off a chair. what is going on? Olivia isnt normally like this. baby #2 hasnt even arrived and scared to see how she will start acting. why cant i get this kid to sleep and stop being so bad. ive had to spank her today and pinch her bottom. she cried which really wasnt hard but then she proceeded t odo what she wanted. wont respond to time out any help would be appreciated.

Re: i feel like im losing my mind

Does she get a snack before bedtime or anything to eat? maybe it'd be worth it to get another crib (I know you don't want to hear that!), just a cheap one. She might not be ready for the bed yet.

Oh no!Chat Icon
Sorry you're dealing with this, esp. w/ #2 on the way.
I'd stay strict w/ her bedtime & naptime rituals, hopefully this is just a phase (I know, I know, I hate hearing that tooChat Icon ). Alex has been going on a bunch of playdates lately & has unfortunately been picking up some bad habits here & there from other kids (ie: pushing, throwing things, etc..), I think it's all unfortunately just part of the terrible twos & as long as you're there to correct her she'll eventually learn.

She probably knows the baby is coming soon and is reacting to that. Plus, I'm sure all those around her a little different too. I don't have any advise just lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: i feel like im losing my mind

rach, i dont think it has to do with crib or bed. think she would still ttake her clothes off and pee in the crib if that was the case. she tried climbing out of the crib when she was in it. no snack before bed. she has been watching max and ruby before bed so maybe i will cut htat out. think maybe she is getting wound up bythe tv?

I wish I had some words that could help you Chat Icon I am so sorry she is testing you this way especially while pg with #2. And I know it makes it worse when DH isn't home. Mine gets home at various hours during the middle of the night so I understand that frustration.

Re: i feel like im losing my mind

Do you think that maybe she no longer needs a nap? Ryan gave up his nap a few months ago and goes in around 7 and sleeps until 7am, if he does take a nap, which is rare, he goes to bed later.. so maybe she doesn't need it anymore? Going to bed at 11:30 would KILL me... but being 9 months preggo would be 1000x times worse!

I really have no advice on the other problem. This age is really hard and they go through times where they are total terrors, and then go back to angels again.

Re: i feel like im losing my mind

if i take her nap away then she will be a terror for the whole day. she napped for 30 minutes yesterday and was a zombie. usually she naps for 1 hour to 1.5 hours. with no nap she is nagging and tantrummy. i also need the nap becuase i am so tired from getting up with her early and going to bed so late. i cut her nap to 1 hour but that doesnt seem to help.

Ok, so she is the type of child that really needs her nap. Then I wouldn't take it away either.

This just sounds like so out of character from what you normally describe of her. It sounds like something that will pass, hopefully sooner than later for your sake and sanity! Chat Icon

YIKES girl!Chat Icon

Sounds like a major control issue going on with Olivia. No experience with your particular situation (except for DH working crazy hours and handling a toddler while being pregnant) but maybe offer her choices in the situations she is giving you trouble in so she feels like she is in control and can make a "good" decision, or redirect her if you know she is going to make a "wrong" decision.

Hang in there, I hope it passes quickly and you get some peace of mindChat Icon
