President Trump said he will ban transgender people from serving in the military in any capacity, a reversal of the Obama administration decision that would have allowed transgender recruits to serve, he announced on social media on Wednesday.
Citing the need to focus on victory, Trump said that the military cannot accept the burden of higher medical costs and “disruption” that transgender troops would require.
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

He's drawing attention away from health care. I knew he was going to do something like this, but my guess was firing Sessions. It's all in the timing.

He is a pig. Using this discrimination to distract from the heat on him and his epic failure to pass any meaningful legislation.

We are a country in serious crisis. Congress isn't doing their job as check on the president. Potus is a deranged narcissist who is obviously beholden in some way to Russia. And we still have too many MAGA a-holes who think he is doing a great job.
Tell me again how a vote for HRC was the same as a vote for Trump. Nevermind, IT WASN'T. And if you still think it was, then you are an idiot.

IMHO, this is huge. It will set precedent for other government and private institutions to legally limit the rights of LGBT community.

Isn't that a law? Can he just repeal a law at will?
Wouldn't something of this magnitude have to go before Congress or SOMETHING?

Since the Pentagon’s 2016 decision, health care costs for active duty personnel in the armed forces increased between $2.4 million and $8.4 million a year, according to study from the nonprofit RAND Corp, which was commissioned by the Department of Defense.
Those costs make up a 0.04 to 0.13 percent increase in health care expenditures. Furthermore, only between 29 and 129 service members in active duty will seek transition-related care each year.
The Department of Defense currently spends more than $84 million a year on Viagra.
So, again, Fake News Don is saying it's purely for monetary reasons, but has no plans on cutting Viagra expenses.... or reducing all of his $$$ jaunts to play golf...

It's not a law, just a military policy. It was enacted, then retracted, then re-enacted without Congress. It's a Pentagon/White House ruling.

As with everything he does.... nobody knows. He just shoots from the hips and lets everyone else scramble to try and figure out what he means, how to interpret what he says, and how to implement it. There's never a plan involved....

I was appalled at this when I heard this morning. Jaw. On. Floor. This is discrimination at its finest. What a louse Trump is. I can't believe we have American citizens willing to lay down their lives to protect their country and this a$$hole (who has NEVER served) is going to tell them they don't have that right because they MIGHT want to have surgery and what a headache that will be for everyone else. So deplorable. NO American citizen should be denied the right to serve their country based upon nothing more than their skin color, gender, sexual orientation, or religious beliefs.
Evidently going backwards and singling out a group of Americans is what will make America great. Trump is the biggest piece of garbage $hit out there and I hope he realizes that ANYONE with a brain can see through his attempts to distract yet AGAIN because his a$$ in his hot water.............as usual.

The cost to discharge all of those soldiers is staggering.... not to mention all of the discrimination lawsuits that would follow...
But apparently the tens of millions of dollars spent every year on Viagra is a necessary expense...
Many experts are saying that "tweets aren't policy", and that this doesn't technically have any actual sticking power. It's very possible that it's just a distraction from the fact that the GOP is trying to take insurance away from tens of millions of people... or distract from the Russian collusion story... or distract from the huge list of other travesties that are happening... or he just wants his ever-shrinking core base to cheer him on no matter what.
Even if it doesn't actually happen, it's putting everyone in chaos. The Pentagon is scrambling because they didn't know about this, thousands of soldiers have no idea what their future holds, uncounted others who are planning on joining the military won't be now, the rest of the LGTBQ community is getting a huge shocking wake up call about how much he hates that community....
