I am pretty upset about something, tell me if I am wrong
DH and I had a pretty big argument last weekend about $ so in the middle of it I said "don't get me anything for Hanukkah, we don't have the extra $ for it."
so he just called me on his way home from work and said "well, Happy Hanukkah but I didn't buy you anything"
now I am mad and don't even know if I have a right to be

Yeah, he sounds like hes being a jerk to rub it in. I would be annoyed too but I would probably give him a small attitude when he gets home but then drop it.

 This happened to my parents one year. I still remember her telling me to throw out food that came out of the oven. It wasn't until my dad sat down at the table & said "Wow you didn't make kale this year?" that I figured out why. It was his favorite dish.
My mom learned never to say "Don't get me anything" and my dad learned to never believe her if she ever uttered the words again.

yeah, I guess it was my fault for saying what I did. but I was also angry when I said it since we were arguing.
I also got mad b/c he starts with his lame excuses. on top of the "you told me not to" he says "well I didn't have any time and I've been sick this week - blah blah".
translation - I am thoughtless

I'm pretty sure he'll be doing it more than once if he knows what's good for him. My dad blew the one day he had. I know he would have been scrambling the next 7 if he had the opportunity.

I don't think he's rubbing it in. I think he's trying not to upset you too much. I think I know what the argument was about (and you were being sensitive about the topic, that's why you said what you did) and he doesn't want to ruffle more feathers, especially about money.
I've done that in the past, thankfully, DH knows me now (after almost 11 years of being together) so he just ignores me.
I'm sorry!!
Talk to him, there's a difference between relatives Christmas gifts and the ones for the both of you (if I have the "argument" right).
Try (easier said than done) to not take the relative $$ arguments or spending to heart. I learned that lesson the hard way. We can talk more offline if you'd like.
Tell Bill to make it up tomorrow. He has 7 more days for presents!

how does one buy something when you have no money....
take this time to spend together and enjoy each others gift of love...that in my mind is priceless....
we aren't doing anything crazy either. the point of buying presents for the sake of "a hoilday" when you have no money is hard to justify.
you can be upset but try not to be. prehaps it was said in the wrong way and the conversation was already heated.
