I am going to ask a stupid question - but I'm curious...

I'll be seeing my gyno next month to ask as well...

I have never been on BC - did more "natural" methods Chat Icon

When exactly do I ovulate? Dumb question, right?

My cycle is almost always 28-29 days exactly - like clockwork.....

Is there a specific "moment" that you can get pregnant, or is there a window of time - like a day, a few days, an hour, etc....

ETA: Ask me anything about sex, and I'm an expert... but when it comes to what sex was actually intended for, I'm a bumbling idiot!!!

ITs not a dumb question. If you dont ask, how would you ever know.
Its a few day window. Usually 10-14 days after the first day of your period.
Thats what i've learned so far. vistit www.fertilityfriend.com and they have lots of useful information.

Re: I am going to ask a stupid question - but I'm curious...

you really have to be conscious of your cm (cervical mucus)..there are different times when you are more fertile than others... and you dont necessarily ovulate at 14 days, it could be earlier or later and thats totally normal...
there have been a lot of posts on this recently...just check the past few days on here and i'm sure you'll find tons of info!!

I highly recommend reading TCOYF as so many other people on here did, and i feel so much more knowledgable now!!

good luck!! Chat Icon

I am reading a book right now, cannot remember the name of it for the life of me.... the rule of thumb is you subtract 14 from the total number of days from your cycle.... for example... my cycle is 31 days, so somewhere around 17 should be my magic number.... but, they tell you to try in a 5 day window.... so, we try day 12-18.... to be safe!!!

Definitely get a book.... they help so much... there was so much I didnt know about the process too...... Good Luck!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I am going to ask a stupid question - but I'm curious...

I recommend TCOYF (Taking Care of your Fertility). Excellent book and it was like WOW, all this stuff I had no idea my body was doing. It is so worth the money and the time to read.

Anyway, yes definitely pay attention to your CM. When it gets very wet, watery and egg-white in texture it means that you are fertile and most likely going to ovulate soon.

However the only real way to know when and if you ovulate is to take your BBT (Basal Body Temp) every morning before getting up and out of bed. When you see a clear thermal shift, that means you've ovuated. By charting this and your other signs (CM, cervic position, OPK tests - though you certainly don't have to do all of that, but it can really pinpoint the exact time of ovulation) you can really see when you ovulate exactly. Check out fertilityfriend.com - they have a free account you can sign up for and tons of information. Read through the FAQ section - it's enlightening.

HTH!!
