How ready did you feel to start TTC

DH & I have been talking for mos about how we cant wait to start TTC and plan to start in June. However, as the time approaches, I'm feeling like I'm not 100% ready. I love our life together and I dont know if I'm done with enjoying it with just the two of us. And I was talking with my mom and she said she knew was ready when it all of a sudden felt like something was missing. I dont feel that way yet Chat Icon
Is this normal? Did anyone else feel this way?

I could have posted this to a T. We are ready to start TTC in June. As time gets closer, it gets harder for me to think about taking the leap. I have spent so many years with just me and DH, that the thought of our addition seems like it is going to be the most wonderful thing that will happen to us, but also the most life changing, and life is great right now.

I blame my mother for my 2nd thoughtsChat Icon she had a ton of kids, so I am not going into this baby thing blind and blissful. It is so much sacrafice. I know I will love my baby and so badly want one, but another year for me and DH also seems like a great thing...

Overwhelmed! We both work so there is the stress of what we'd do to afford a baby and paying the bills. Then there is my own selfish feeling of staying organized. I'm the kind that needs neatness to stay sane. So I'm forever picking up after DH. I know I'll be going crazy picking up after him and a baby. (I know, sounds silly) Then there are my health fears. I am a vegetarian that can't swallow pills, so I'm afraid I'm going to mess up our child before it even has a start. And selfishly, what will it do to my body? The ladies on Pregnancy talk about the effects...THEY FREAK ME OUT!!! Chat Icon Then I'm afraid we'll have a psycho child that will be the devil incarnate. We watched a scary movie last night, so it brought out those fears.

.

I just feel my own pressure about my age (28) and the expectations I set out upon myself at 18, thinking I'd have kids by now. And DH is several years older, so he's pretty much ready. But then I realize that there is still more I need to do (both mandatory, like work-related and self-decided) before we do this. So we're waiting another year.

eta:I also KNOW that having a baby will change our life and we WANT one, there is no doubt, but I think there are too many up in the air things that need to settle. We're getting there. But right now, I'm making excuses which is indicative that I need more time. Don't get me wrong, if it happened, I would be delighted. I know I would do my best and I know DH would do his best. But this is a person, a real human being, not a paint color on the wall or a rug in the living room. We can't take it back or store it somewhere until we need it. Knowing the gigantic responsibility, it's scary. Watch, next week I'm on here announcing I'm pregnant Chat Icon Chat Icon .

I guess what I'm saying is that I know that so much goes along with having a baby and while we will be so incredibly happy when it happens, until then, I'm scared and therefore, I'm trying to rationalize my fears.

OK I have to chime in as a mom of a 3 year old I too had the same feelings I think if you are financially ready, its something you just have to jump in on...yes it is life altering and yes its a big change in lifestyle, I could not picture life without our little man...I dont think a person feels "100% READY" because there is that fear of the unknown...IMO

Re: How ready did you feel to start TTC

I didn't feel ready totally but after months of going back and forth, me and DH just decided to go for it. Now that we are pregnant we still have our fears and insecuties about it all but we are loving the thought of having them here.

Every person i know who is pregnant or has babies has told me you never feel 100% ready but you do it because it something you want.

Good luck!

YES...you are completely NORMAL!
I have been TTC for about 3-4 months now and i am still not 100% ready. I don't think anyone really ever is IMO.
But we made our decision and that is the end of it. I can't question anymore or i will drive myself crazy.

IMO it is scary, it is frightening, you question yourself and your abilities.

AND anyone who doesn't do this...IMO is the abnormal oneChat Icon

Re: How ready did you feel to start TTC

I was ready right away. I have felt this wanting to be a mom since I was like 14 years old. We couldn't even wait till we were married , its justthis overwhleming want and need. I dont know if others feel like me, or not.
I do think you need to be ready or feel ready. Because anyone can have a baby but it takes a lot to devote everything you are to raising another person.

If you dont feel ready, why the rush? I dont see anything wrong with waiting ?

Re: How ready did you feel to start TTC

I completely understand how you feel. I have been married since June and my DH has been ready since then...we decided that we would wait until this coming summer to start trying bc i wanted to just enjoy our time together, but recently it has just hit me that I'm READY...i stopped my birth control last week, so I guess we'll see what happens...
I'm definitely slightly apprehensive about it and get nervous sometimes, but I think its normal...its a HUGE change so I cant imagine how it wouldnt be a little scary...

Yes!!!!! I feel the same way! It totally changes your life, and it is IMO so scary to think about changing your life so fast. I am not TTC yet, but the time is coming. I love my life with my husband and I am trying to cherish every moment.
