How old was DH when he got a vasectomy?

I am preggo with #2. I do not want anymore. For sure. Even if for some magical reason I change my mind later, I don't want to be able to. I don't want the economic burden of a third. DH kind of wants a third but is aware I am done and ok with that. I can't take any form of hormonal birth control due to a blood clotting disorder. I don't think I want to use condoms our whole lives. They break.

DH and I are 29. I feel funny with such a final solution of vasectomy at this age. I realllly don't want any more though. What if something happened to me and he wanted to remarry and I took away happiness of a future child from him and his new wife? Morbid, I know, but I can't help but to think if it this way.

How old was your DH when he got "snipped" or how old will he be when you consider it?

I am due with baby #2 as of yesterday and DH both feel we are done so we are considering him getting snipped this year. I am turning 38 this month and DH will be 38 in June.

DD was 38 when he got it done.

At 29, I might look into other options if you are unsure.

DH was 37 but we were definitely done at that point.

Everything you said is 100% us but flipped. I feel exactly as your husband does. That being said, I had a tubal with my second. I had a repeat csection so it was easy. I am 29 and though I think I am grieving my decision a bit, I know that it was the right decision for my family. I just need my heart to realize that (having a fussy newborn helps) lol

There is an age difference between DH and I so I made the decision after #2 I will have a tubal. I want DH the option to have kids if something were to happen to me later on.

I can't take the pill or hormone birth control due to clotting reasons also. You can use mirena it is hormone free and works for 5 years

DH was 100% ok with not having anymore kids but also 110% against getting snipped so I got the Essure procedure done

I've tried the mirena and the pill. I can't have hormonal BC because I go crazy!

So I'm looking into paragard. It's an IUD that is hormone free. Talk to you doctor to get all your options.

I'm not at all in this boat but just wanted to mention as a pp did, have you looked into the Essure procedure? From what I've heard it's much easier than having your tubes tied, although I don't speak from experience. It might be worth looking into though.

Dh was 33 or 34. It was the right decision for us. I have very complicated pregnancies so we knew we were done with 2. I did not want a tubal ligation because of the long term hormonal risks ( my mom had a very early menopause and a bunch of hormonal issues that doctors have attributed to this). I tried Paraguard for 1.5 years and hated it! It made both of our lives miserable so DH decided this was something he wanted to do. We are very happy with it and it can be reversed - although not always.

DH was 30 when he had his vasectomy. He was 37 when he had it reversed.

DH's first wife didn't want more children after they had 2. DH had a vasectomy even though he wanted more children. They wound up divorcing. When he and I met, I made it very clear that I wanted children. DH underwent a very costly (insurance does NOT cover reversals) and very painful reversal surgery.

The reversal was not successful (often the case). As a result, DH had to have another surgery to extract his sperm, and I underwent IVF. We now have a child, but it cost us thousands upon thousands of dollars, and lots of physical pain in the process.

DH was 31 when he got snipped. I was 28.

I also struggled a lot with the decision for the same reason as you... because we're so young and it's such a drastic solution. But DH was adamant that he didn't want anymore children (we have a and ). I wanted 3 but came to terms with the fact that it wasn't in the cards for us.

In the long run now, I'm glad that he got it done... and obviously he's very happy with the decision too.

If you are 100% done, but DH is sorta on the fence and would be open to it I would look into you having a tubal after the section or Essure. I say that because G-D forbid something ever happened he could have more. DH was 35 when he had his. Essure wasn't covered for me and we did not do a tubal since we were on the fence. I can imagine more, but he is done done done and felt like if anything ever happened to him he wanted me to have a chance at more kids. I am also 6 years younger then him as well.
