How often do you have to buy a new laptop?

Our laptop is about 1 1/2 yrs. old and it has started getting very hot when it is on for too long which is what happened to the last one when it crapped out. Aren't they supposed to last at least 3 yrs?

I've had my HP for a couple of years and have had no problems. I had a Dell laptop for like 6 months and it crapped out on me. I ended up just giving it to my sister who I think gave it to a friend because the company ***** so much about repairs.

I've had no issues with my current one getting overheated.

I had mine for 2 years and its almost dead--lol It gets so hot and is soooo slow, I need a new one! They should last for like 3-5 years.

To maintain cutting-edge status, you need to buy a new one every week!

Otherwise, 3-5 years should be expected. After 3 years, some software gets too big for the computer to run, and after 5 years, the software technology is usually pretty far ahead of the computer, and it can't run a lot of newer stuff.

a laptop will last as long as you take care of it...It should not be dead after 1.5 years...

You may be blocking the air flow of the system. Just like anything else...its needs to breathe.. You may want to pick up a laptop cooler. If processer is too hot, it will perform poorly....

Software on the machine may impead the performance also which you may think is the hardware...

I bought a fan that I put my laptop on top of and it is powered by USB it kepes my laptop from getting hot. I would def. suggest this. I've had mine for over 2 years and it's like new. I had to replace the screen because I am a klutz but other than that no problems. I bought it expecting it to last at least 5 years

Mine always lasted three years and I was upset when they crapped out on me!

Are you leaving it on when not in use? That was my big downfall with the laptops -- no need to keep it on / running when not in use. It will decrease its life dramatically.

getting hot means your vents are probably clogged with lots of dust and dirt. Hot computers run slower, and behave like they're going to break. With towers, you can just remove the casing and vacuum everything. with a laptop, you should take it to a service center so the pro's can open the case and give it a good vacuum.

the whole thing should cost be a very basic service fee (about $100)

My laptop has lasted for about 5 years. THe only thing I've had to do is have it cleaned. I have a Gateway.

i've had mine for about 2 years and it runs fine (knock on wood).
