How much to pay for a tutor?

My husband and I want to get a tutor for our 7 year old son in the fall. We have tried working with him ourselves on certain things but his behavior is different with us than in school. We do not want to overload him so we were thinking of getting a tutor to come to the house for a half hour once or twice a week. We are considering junior/senior special ed majors or special ed teachers. How much would you pay a college student? Teacher?

I tutor middle school math, and charge anywhere from $75-90/hr. I do $65/hr if it's twice a week. Because it's a 7 year old and it's not upper-level schoolwork, and because it's not a certified teacher you're looking to hire, I would think like $35-40/hr

I was thinking 30 and hour but an hour of work is too much for him. WOW...$75 an hour is a lot of money. You must do really well.

thanks

How much to pay for a tutor?

We had a tutor for my daughter who was one of her TAs at school. We paid her $60 for 45 minutes once a week. I don't think you'll find anyone for $30 that would be worth your time.

College age students would be less. We are talking 1st grade material here.

Re: How much to pay for a tutor?

My friend paid a college student $25/hour this last year to tutor her daughter in 4th grade math. It was twice per week in the beginning and then dropped to once per week. The college girl was thrilled to be getting $50 a week off the books.

She just graduated and is now pursuing her MBA in the fall and she is continuing at $30/hr in fall.

Re: How much to pay for a tutor?

We pay a college student $20/hour. She is an education major. My son is 5 and she is helping him read and write. All easy stuff that I just don't have the patience for/ he acts differently with me. We felt that he needed the extra help bc he's very young in the grade (k) and a tad behind imo. If you're looking for this type of tutoring I think it would be absurd to pay more than $30/hr. I know this is a special needs board- does that come into play? If so, then maybe someone more specialized makes sense.
