How much gas in a new car?

DH just bought a brand new Ford F150 and we spent a LOT of money on it... ($40K+) I was really pizzed to learn that Sayville Ford (if not all Ford dealerships) only gives $20 in gas in your gas tank. That equaled less than 1/4 tank!!!! I've bought several new cars in my life and I've ALWAYS gotten a full tank of gas. Has anyone else experienced the same frugality as we did yesterday? It just doesn't make sense that you buy a $40k vehicle and you're not given FULL fluids of all kinds. Am I wrong?

Forget the fact that we had to make 2 trips to pick up the vehicle because after the first appointment we made to take delivery, the dealer thought we just came to "see it". We ordered this truck from the factory, what is there to see? We came to pick it up since it was finally in!!!! The dealer actually rolled his eyes at us when we asked why we couldn't take it.

I bought a brand new car in 2008 and even then, I drove out of the dealership with the tank almost on empty.

I got a full tank in 2007 and now again in 2010

DH just picked up a new Huyndai Elantra and it had a full tank. I'm pretty sure I had a full tank on my Chevy Equinox last year. I got mine from Nissenger 112 and DH got his from their Huyndai dealership next door.

Last year I got a full tank. I agree with you...you just spent at lot of $$ on a car. I don't think a full tank of gas is too much to ask for.

We just bought a suburban and we were left with fumes!

We leased a Prius last year and we left with a full tank. They filled it up and washed it while we were signing the final papers.

I think the gas tank should be full when you buy a new car. It just makes sense that the dealership would want you to leave happy! Cars don't last forever, and eventually you'll need a new one again...why wouldn't they want to leave you with a good feeling so you go back and give them your business again?
years ago, I bought a VW, and not only did it have a full tank of gas...but they gave me a gift bag with treats! Totally unnecessary....but I still remember it! And I would totally recommend that dealership to others because of their amazing customer service.
Not a smart move on the dealership's part!

When I bought my car in '08 it only had a 1/4 tank of gas. I did not even think twice about it.

I bought my car last year at Mazda. Full tank! DH just got a new Mazda himself last month. Full tank!

It's not that it's free gas per se, it's the fact that they went the extra step in making the purchase experience even better. Going the extra step. What's $50 (even $70) for a delearship if you gave a smile on your client's face. You know they will talk about you and even recommend you just because you threw in a full tank and maybe a cheap accessory option.

Clients are suckers for that. And that's those little thing that add up to a great purchase experience.

I just bought a 2011 ford escape from sayville ford I only had about half a tank. When I bought my 2006 Toyota corolla from sunrise Toyota back in 2005 it had a full tank of gas.

That leaves such a bad taste in your mouth, they should have filled it.

Thanks for your responses everyone. I agree, it's not about getting a freebie, but making us happy. The dealer was the biggest aszhole the entire time we were *trying* to pick up the car and the fact that we had to go home empty handed after we had an appointment and then return the next day, I would think a full tank of gas would make things better. Not only that, some guy took the keys and they told us he was getting gas... If we only knew it would be 1/4 tank, we would've said, "Don't bother!"

When i got my new truck in 2009 the guy actually rode with us to the gas station with someone following since there was sooo little gas they didn't think it would make it.

Needless to say, they did fill up the tank for us, but i don't think that is the norm.

They should be full. When I bought my car new it wasn't though and I was ticked!

dh got a new car (prius)in jan and git a full tank, i got a sienna in march and got a full tank as well

I just bought a Ford from Smithtown Ford this year, and I got a full tank. DH just got a new Hyundai from Atlantic and he had a full tank as well.
