How long does a runny nose and phlegmy cough last?

DD still has a phlegmy cough and a bit of a runny nose still too. It's been a week. She's been fever free the last 4 days. Is it something to be concerned about or do these things take a while to clear up totally?

Ugh...horrible, right?

our pediatrician said coughing could last up to 3 weeks. DD had the same thing, congestion and a cough and a fever for a few days, then just the cough for 3 weeks. After a 1 1/2 weeks of being better, it's happening ALL over again!

I agree 7-10 days for a cold but with the cough, it could last longer. You could wind up with secondary infection or it could develop into something more.

If you cut out dairy (over 1 year, right?), it will ease the congestion.

Watch for signs that it's becoming an infection (ear infection, eye infection, fever).

DS had a cough that lasted weeks. The ped said it's typical for it to linger. He's had a constant runny nose since Aug. 25th when he started daycare.

usually 7-10 days but DD had one not too long ago that took a good THREE weeks to clear up entirely.

DS had a runny nose and cough right before Christmas. The runny nose cleared up in like a week. The cough is still here! The ped said it takes a while for the coughs to clear up. could take 3-4 weeks! i hope hes better soon because i hate listening to him cough.

Thanks, I just got to check this. She hardly coughs but when she does it still sounds like there's so much phlegm. And she has a little hoarse voice still.

Jeremy has had a cough for a couple of weeks. I have brought him back to the peds 3 or 4 times. Only the first time was anything in his lungs. Nothing since. It is bad when he sits up after a nap but that's it. No green mucous. No infection. No fever. We nebulize with saline to help him loosen it. ETA it started once he was settled in day care.
