Is it basically the same as the points plan?

yes it is pretty much the same, except they added in the core, and now call it filling foods- they are basically now teaching the point people how to choose your points more wisely, that if you spend 4 points on eating chicken vs. doritos, the chicken will fill you and make you less hungry later... there is no more core...
