How do you make a child unafraid of a toy?

DS got Tickle Me Elmo from the secret santa at the Sayville GTG. He loves it. He laughs at it.

However, DD is hysterical when she sees it. She is afraid of it. Even if it is off on a shelf she freaks out.

So how do I get her to like his toy?

Kerri has not liked some toys before...I usually keep it out of sight then reintroduce it and she always ended up liking them.....especially if she saw a kid around her age playing with it

There's something about these elmo toys that are scaring are DC's. We went to a 1st birthday party a few weeks ago for my friends DS and we went back to the home after the restaurant and he had the tickle me elmo is it? the one that throws himself on the floor. Well my son gave me the look of fear and started wailing! But the thing is he would still be curious...Chat Icon I was like "if you are afraid then stay away from it" All the other kids were playing with it so I guess that's why he had to keep going near it but everytime he did he would cry. Then eventually he started warming up to it a little bit. He likes Elmo! He knows him from the books he has. Never seen him on TV or anything just recognizes him from the books.

At the party they had Elmo come and from a distance DS was like "Elmo" and then was like "Wow" but when he got close to him and Elmo picked him up, he started wailing...Weirdo...Chat Icon Chat Icon
