How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

My kid always looks a little on the sloppier side. When we go out, other little boys have kahkis on and sweater vests, jeans...mine is always in comfy almost pj-like clothes.

The other little boys look so cute, I get inspired, take him out dressed, and always find myself so happy to get him home and in a cotton 1 piece again.

Overalls ride up in his face, and the buckles are right were his car seat straps go. Jeans always seem so cold...any sweater type outfit seems to get wet with drool in a second and never seem to dry, just get wetter and wetter.

Then, if he does decide to nap, he sleeps so much better if he doesn't have real clothes on.

With age will things change...or will I always be a function dresser? (he's 2 months)

Re: How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

DD is only 2 weeks old so we haven't gone anywhere where I would dress her up but I did put her in jeans when my brother came up to visit this weekend and they didn't have inside snaps. I have now vowed not to buy anything else without inside snaps.

I think if I am going out with DD I will dress her in outfits but for hanging at home, those Sleep and Play outfits are fine.

I try to get Megan "dressed" when we go out but I always wind up feeling the same way. Nothing ever seems comfortable enough for her or for me when holding her or changing her. She seems to sleep better in sleepers and is just overall more comfortable in sweats...just like her mommy! I have so many dresses for her but I admit..I tend to not put them on her when we go out because it just seems awkward...cant explain it. Its also hard in the colder weather cause nothing fits under her snowsuit. Maybe in the summer...it will be a little easier?? OUr kids are adorable no matter what anyway! Chat Icon

I like to dress Noah really trendy, like a little man. I love Old Navy clothes...so when I get to the states, I buy a job lot!!! I love their fleece lined jeans, I love their thermal shirts. But my favorite shirts of Noah's are Splendid Tops...I got them at Century 21 and they are just gorgeous!!

My friends all say that Noah is the best dressed baby at babygroup...that makes me proud because I always have mushed up cookie on my shoulders, or mouth rings on my neckline...

We dress Jacob in comfy warm clothes...if we are having company or going out with friends, we dress him in a nice outfit. Usually he is in stretchies or feeties

Re: How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to dress my kids in trendy clothes!!! I think that I live vicariously through them. I am a teacher and overweight, so I never bother for myself, but my kids have awesome wardrobes! I don't know why it's important to me-but I love that people are always commenting on how cute my kids' clothes are. (I buy a lot of stuff at BabyStyle, Gap, Ralph Lauren outlet, Oilily, Crew Cuts, etc.) I think I have a problem........

Re: How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

Personally, I never dressed Jacob in baby clothes..he always looked like a little man..

I always have him put together but that is just how I am..

He is always looking trendy and cute also..

On days he has gym classes, he is always in somesort of sweat outfit or shirt and windpants.. I just feel he needs to move around so he should be comfortable-- love the children place windpants--I think we have them in every color...

On the other days I have him in cargo pants or jeans with a sweater ( now that it is cold) or I love the shirts that are a longsleeve shirt than a tshirt over it...

never have him in overalls--hassel to put on now that he is older and I try to find pants with elastic waists--so much easier when you have a toddler that won't sit still when you change them....

oh--love the layering look-- he has a lt of hoodies too..

I second the splendid clothing--they are made so well and sooo soft

Re: How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

I am a mix...at home she is in what you would call "comfy" clothes but when we go out she is dressed in jeans or a dress. But I don't think she minds them...she doesn't seem bothered either way.

Overalls on the other hand I have not put on her at all....for the same reason you said the buckles and top get all smushed in her face....those will wait until she is walking.

It's usually a mix. If we plan on hanging out at home all day, then it's mostly comfy stuff, but if we're going out, the majority of the time they're in outfits.

Re: How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

Well, I made the mistake of buying lots of overalls and outfits. So, when we go out and sometimes even around the house, he wears outfits. Not kakis and sweater vests, but jeans or overalls. He only wears sleepers to sleep. Now, knowing that he is not so comfy in jeans and overalls, I am only going to buy sweat pants or corderoy (sp?) pants for the winter and knit shorts for the summer. Then I will get one or two pairs of jeans and overalls.

90% of the time Jack's in comfy footies. The other 10% is when we're going out and I feel guilty that we have all the cute clothes and he's outgrowing them so fast. So I'll put him in something cute, take a pic, go out for a bit and change him as soon as we get homeChat Icon

I dress more for both - since dd is still small and we received a lot of clothes she interchanges b/w both - personally I like dressing for form but since I didn't pick the clothes, she also dresses for function.....
I can't wait until she is bigger (or even grows into her 3-6 mo clothes!!)

Re: How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

I do both. If we are at home then most times I don't even get her out of her PJs and same if I'm just running to a store quickly. But if we have Gymboree or we're going to see people then I get her dressed. Since I've got a girl we get so many clothes as gifts and I feel like I've got to use them. But I"m lucky in that she doesn't seem to mind and is a good sport, but I do always try to keep her relatively comfy. I don't buy anything that seems totally impractical.

During the week DH is in charge, so she stays in PJs, doesn't bother me. She's comfy and he stays in with her. On the weekends I dress her, even if we don't go out.

I always dress DD. It is a rare day when she's in a onesie unless it's to sleep. Sometimes I feel bad making her get dressed but she looks so cute. and the clothes I buy her are comfy ones- even though they are a little dressier. I have a bunch of outfits from Denny's that are cutee flare leggings and cute tops (plus a TON of hand me downs from my SIL) and those are all cotton and comfy. I don't really dress her in jeans all that much because I always feel like the buttons can dig in. But occasionally I will.

thanks! I picked him up 2 more little jogging outfits from old navy today. I did not even bother looking for different clothes..they seem to be going to waste.

My DD is 2 months too. I usually dress her in comfy outfits but I'm starting to get a little more fashionable. On V-day, she wore a dress with tights but only because we stayed in. I'll start dressing her up a little more often once it's warmer outside.

I love to dress DS...I never dressed him like a baby since I tend to like the "little man" clothes..haha

I am obsessed with Denny's and Gap~ I make sure the clothes I buy for him are fashionable and also comfy...I love to layer his tops (long-sleeve shirt under a t-shirt) even sweats are an outfit (sweatsuit),,,puma, nike & adidas~

ETA: DS always has on a pair of sneakers/boots. I never take him out with just socks on~

It really depends on what is going on. And the weather! If we are staying home, it's comfy sweats for the both of us, and if we're going out, trendy for Bella and casual for me!

Re: How do you dress your baby? Are you function over form?

I had a spring baby so she was dressed up everyday regardless of we stayed in or went out. I don't think a day had passed that I was off and didn't have her out until this winter when I got pregnant... Now that she is older and messier-feeding herslef-she has been wearing a large assortment of sweatsuits as it's freezing and my parents try to get her out on warmer days. But when I ask her in the morning what she wants to wear, it has to be pink! And on the weekends, I let her take a skirt or dress... she prefers them to pants.

I think winter babies are harder to dress up bc you can't get out as much. ANd girls are easier to dress too bc they have so many causal dresses....

I like to dress DD in comfy clothes. Cotton pants and shirts. She doesn't wear dresses much because I think it inhibits her movement on the floor.

I dress James in a mix. He has so many cute outfits, I hate for them to go to waste. DH on the other hand always wants him cozy.
