How do returns work for something that wasn't marked as purchased on registry?

How do returns work for something that wasn't marked as purchased on registry?
I have a few items that my registires indicate were never purchased, but that were on my registry.
I don't have gift receipts for them.
How will that work when I go to return them?
Some items are from Buy, Buy Baby and some are from Babies R Us.

If you sign in to your registry, you can change the quantity purchased.

But will they see that I marked it as purchased? Is there a difference between doing that and someone actually buying it off the registy?

Nope, no difference. They allow that option for specifically that reason. They know that people don't always know to bring the registry printout to the checkout, etc. So they allow you to change it yourself for exactly the situation you're in!
