How do Born Free Variable Flow nipples work?
Sorry if that's a dumb question. Ryan seems to be collapsing the level I nipples so I assume that means he is ready for level II but I just realized I only have VF at home - not level II.

I think I have them in the kitchen, but haven't opened the package yet....
I think the flow is much faster than the regular stage 1.
U could take a knife and just slit the opening for now until you can get him the next stage in nips tho Jessee.....

DS has been using Playtex variable flow nipples for about 2 months now. It took him a while to get used to it after being on a slow flow. Variable flow nipples have an x-cut or a y-cut instead of a regular hole. It allows the baby to control how fast they want the milk to flow.
We had to switch to a variable flow for DS's thickened feeds (it wouldn't fit through a slow flow.) Even if the milk isn't thickened a baby can still use this nipple. What's nice about the variable flow is that there's no need to ever switch between different stages of nipples.

They didn't work too well for us. They were much faster than the level ones and DH could never figure out which way to hold it - you have to turn the nipple with the appropriate marking for the flow rate you want facing up.

Well I lucked out and didn't have to make the trip all the way to BBB. I actually found Level II BF nipples at my local CVS last night  !
