Not in the Garden District, but I stayed at the Fairmont and it was very nice. I think it is on Canal and we took the streetcar to the Garden District.

We stayed at the Royal Sonesta - right on Bourbon with a balcony. I'm not familiar with the Garden District hotels but have always been interested in staying at the Cornstalk Hotel (not sure of the current state of the hotel)

Re: Hotel recommendation in New Orleans?

We stayed at the Alexa and relly loved it. It actually belongs to a bigger hotel that it is adjesent to, but Alexa is a separate place with much more reasonable prices yet accees to all the other hotel's amenities. ( I now forget the name of the bigger place)

Alexa is facing Canal street and that's where our windows were facing. Thsoe are the best room to ask for, if you end up bookign there. Hotel is about a 10 15 minute walk to Jackson Square.
