holiday gifts q- if you have a large extended family
If you have a large extended family with lots of kids, do you buy for every kid in the family or do you do a secret santa type of thing? We used to do a secret santa between all the aunts uncles and cousins in my family and we finally phased that out, but when all the cousins started to have kids, we have just been buying for the kids only... but including all of our cousins' kids (and I have many first cousins), even if its $25 per kid it definitely adds up. So I was just wondering what you do in your families.. TIA!

Between DH and I we have 11 nieces and nephews to buy gifts for (both Holiday gifts and Bday gifts). We try and keep it to $25-30 pp.

DH's family is large. We still do a secret santa between the 15 first cousins, which is getting a little much. Now there are 9 grandchildren and this is the first year we decided to do a secret santa for them as well. I would suggest this to your family. Much easier than buying for all of them!!

I used to buy for all of them, then the family grew even more. Now I only buy for the little kids 13 and under and I try to keep it around $25per person.

This is what i want to suggest, I just don't know how to bring it up without seeming cheap or a scrooge. I would def still buy for our nieces and nephew, but all of the cousins kids just gets to be too much.

DH and I don't have siblings so we buy for extended family.
For my cousin's kids - I get something in the $10-$15 range for all of them, this year I got personalized Disney blankets (there are 5)..
For DH's cousin's kids - we did a Secret Santa pull in the past but, now those of us with kids are not exchanging iwth the other kids since it gets to be too much.

All the young kids, under 18, get gifts from everyone. Anyone over 18 goes into the Kris Kringle.

my dh and i each have a numerous brothers and sisters and have 14 nieces and nephews between us. in the past 21 and over did kris kringle and kids got gifts. this year some of kids will get a gift.

We always pulled names, and once you are married you are out of the pool. The adults do a yankee swap.
This was for my cousins growing up. We buy gifts for my sister and sister,brother in law. My DS has no cousins yet.

There are 8 kids in our family. DH is one of 5. So we started doing a grab bag and picking a family. Buying for everyone, even just the kids gets to be too expensive. This way, everyone gets a gift!

We do buy for extended family and it seems to grow by the year! As of now we buy for 7 kids (not including our own and my niece.) and they're all fairly young, so I will be buying for the foreseeable future.
