Hi new here with question...please help

Hi I have been lurking for some time now, getting great advice and ideas through all of your postings.

I have a question....my husband and I last year bought raw pine wood doors (six-panel) for our apartment (from home depot).

we recently had some time off to stain and poly the doors. we did 2 yesterday, we thought in the sun it looked nice, but when we brought them in, they looked very knotty, dirty looking (although clean) and the color is just awful and does not go well with our oak wood flooring.

Today I have done research online, and many say that soft pine is the hardest to stain or to paint

my question is, now we are discouraged from staining and polying and may want to just prime and paint the doors an off-white color to match the molding.

Has anyone done this before??? and if so do you have any pics or advice??

Just wondering what kind of stain you used? We stained all the doors in our house and they came out great. We have the same doors.
