Hey Moms - I have a question...

My head is spinning from all the posts on NFR about Palins daughter - I couldn't read them all so I am sorry if this has already been addressed...BUT...

If your child got pregnant as a teenager (or got someone pregnant in the case of moms to only boys)...would you feel like you were a bad parent? How would you feel if you were accused of being a bad parent because of it?

I would be very upset if this happened to my daughter just since I know that at 17, you have so much ahead of you and you are really still just a kid. So much happened in my life between 17 and 30 that I dont know what i would have done with a baby.

Now, if I have a daughter and this happened, I would be upset, but i dont think I would think of myself as a "bad parent". I will raise my daughter with morals and try to instill in her that unprotected sex or any sex is a big responsibility and that she should be careful and wait for marriage (this is what my mom did and I was very careful)

The mother isnt to blame if she did the best she could to instill morals and beliefs. These things happen no matter what.

I'd only feel bad if either of my sons got many girls pregnant, I'd feel like they had no respect for women, which is something I will instill in both of them.

As for someone thinking I was a bad parent for my son getting someone pg, I really wouldnt care,I know that both me and My DH did the best we could raising our family. People are going to judge your parenting from the time your kids are babies until the time they are senior citizens, life is to damn short for me to worry about what other people think of me

Nope, I don't think it reflects at all on the parents. Teenage pregnancies happen under the best and worst of circumstances. There's really only so much you can do as a parent, and even if you did the most amazing job, we ALL know that teenagers make BAD decisions sometimes. We've all been there, even those of us who were raised by what most would consider very upright, good, solid parents. Most of it comes down to luck for those of us who manage to stay out of real trouble.

I do not think you are a bad parent if your child gets pregnant....you do the best you can to teach them right from wrong but at some point, they have to make their own decisions and live with the consequences
