help i'm still rocking him to sleep!

yes i'm still rocking my almost 11 month old to sleep.

he used to go to sleep on his own after a few minutes of fussing or crying but when he learned to stand up in his crib that was all over. he can stand in his crib forever and not go to sleep no matter how tired he is.

when i let him cio he ends up throwing up b/c he cries so hard. or he'll just stand there and it may take 1 1/2 hours of him playing around to fall asleep (yawning and all.)

here is my dilema:

- it only takes me 2-8 minutes to rock him to sleep.

- he naps 2 times a day for 2 full hours EACH nap. ( he only sleeps 9-10 hours at night so good naps are important.)

- if i rock him a bit and then put him down he pops right up and it will take over an hour for him to fall asleep on his own and then it's like a 3+ hour nap process and that eats away our entire day. (2 times a day!)

what do i do? is it completely aweful that i keep rocking him to sleep for his naps?

thanks guys!

I still rock Matty and he is 16 months old- our nanny just puts him in the crib and he goes to sleep but I don't want to give up my cuddle time with him.....Chat Icon Chat Icon

I would keep rocking him. I rocked my son until he was 15 months, when he decided he did not want to be rocked anymore. He will eventually grow out of it on his own. Chat Icon

Why should you stop rocking him? If it works, it works!
I wish Ava would want thatChat Icon So long as you and DH are ok with it and DS is ok with it, then you're just doing what worksChat Icon

Re: help i'm still rocking him to sleep!

We rocked/bottle fed my son to sleep for the longest time. I hear ya on making life easier and the whole sleep thing. He was well over a year when we changed the routine and it was actually more a progression thing then us trying to change the routine. I'd still rock him if I were you.

We had vision of our kid coming home from going out with his friends at 18 and coming home to be rocked to sleep but eventually it changed. As he got older he fell asleep on his own for naps - til this day not once in his crib but hey he napped 2 hours - so who cares. Then at night we changed to milk and then books and then putting him in drowsy (worked on and off - often we went back to rocking - he had to be old enough to truly enjoy the book reading part). Then it was reading him books while he was in the crib until he fell asleep. Then it became reading a 3 books and then leaving the room - this was over 2 but honestly the process wasn't too bad and didn't take long so I didn't see any issue.

hey no one should judge you or yell at youChat Icon
We all do what's best and what works for our familiesChat Icon

If rocking is what works for you and you're okay with it, keep doing it.

It might get harder to wean him off of it when he's older but if you enjoy it now, why not they're only this age onceChat Icon Chat Icon
