HELP! I want to get a Tablet/iTouch or something of that nature

and I dont know where to begin.

I wanted to get an iTouch for Mother's Day. DH said to look into all my options, so here I am.

I want something with WiFi.

I do NOT want to "add a line" to my cell carrier.

I want to be able to play games, download apps and internet (as needed- not all the time).

I "could" get the iPhone (we're on Verizon) but would have to pay full price- can't get discounted upgrade until October.

Please tell me the ins/outs, pros/cons, I need help.

BTW, I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, so iPad is out.

ETA DH suggested I look at all my options- like the Samsung Galaxy. I checked on Verison and a data plan is req'd. Does that/or do others (aside from the Touch) come without the need of a data plan?

I think an Ipod touch would be perfect for you if you want something small. I have an Ipad and I love it

Get an iTouch.. you don't need a data plan to have one and can everything you would on an iPhone without a contract, data plan.. only difference is no texting (through your carrier; although you can IM) and no phone calls.

you'll be able to listen to music, watch videos, youtube, play games, e-books, stream movies, access the internet (through wifi), etc..

my kids each have one and all that I paid was for the actual device.. no service

My two suggestions would be either an iTouch or a NookColor.

As of this week, you can put apps on the NookColor. I just did the update and now I have apps, can read books, can listen to music, have my pictures on it, play games, etc. It's smaller than an iPad (which I wanted since I read on the train), but bigger than an iTouch.

The negative is that the number of apps is still limited compared to apple products.

Both have WiFi and you don't need to pay any monthly fees. My DH has an iTouch and likes it a lot.

To answer your other question, you do NOT need a data plan to use an ipad or itouch or Nook.. you can access the internet through wifi

I just bought an itouch. I could not justify buying an ipad for DS.

You can access the internet via wifi and not having to pay for it like a tablet/ipad.
