I thought this was a link to some sort of political organization/petition, until I read that the website "promotes Guiness beer"!

Signed it. I never celebrated it in my life. We didn't celebrate it as a kid and I don't celebrate it with my kids either. We're italian.

Re: Help give my kids an Offical holiday for their heritage.
I have to say as a dual Irish and American citizen (My parents are Irish-born, I am a first generation American) I am NOT signing this petition.
Do I march and/or attend the parades every year, yes. Did my parents take us out of school when we were kids to do things on March 17th... yes. Is my hertiage and family in Ireland important to me, yes....But I do this because I have a direct and very strong link to Ireland.
Besides first or second generation Irish-Americans, most Americans do not have a direct connection with Ireland. It is IRELAND's national holiday, not ours. The Irish culture and the holiday of St. Patrick's Day is already so mocked and blaspemed in this country. The stupid " Kiss me, I'm Irish" pins, the green beer, green bagels, the corn beef and cabbage... these are all inaccurate and FALSE stereotypes. As it is, many Americans think Irish people are all drunks who go around saying "Top of the mornin' to ya!" and this will only worsen if St. Patrick's Day is made a national holiday.
Also, if this were to become a national holiday, is America going to incorporate the holidays of all the other countries around the world whose immigrants have come to America? They couldn't possibly make all of those national holidays, nor should they....
ETA: oh, i just clicked on the link... Guinness just wants this to happen to promote their product... stupid! is this even for real?
