Hawaii choice....Big Island or Waikiki
We have already been to Maui and Kauai...Have a choice of a timeshare for a week in either Waikiki beach or Big Island...Both resorts seem really nice so that doesn't seem to be a deciding factor.
Which would you choose? Can't decide which I would rather do.
If it matters, will be going with my 2 year old DS, DH, MIL, and SIL.

l would choose the Big Island - although I have never been there, I wasn't a fan of Waikiki - it was too commercial for me.

Waikik is very commercial BUT Oahu has a lot to see and do.
The Big Island is a rather laid back island.
If you're looking for an equal amount of lounging on the beach with some sightseeing and activities mixed in, I'd probably head to Waikiki.
If you want to escape the city, you can always head up to the north shore of the island which is AMAZING!

The Big Island.
Oahu (Waikiki) was just OK for me - like NYC on a beach allll in Japanese.
I would skip it next time.
We loved Kauai and Maui and wished we had done the Big Island instead of Oahu b/c it is more 'up our alley' and more like Kauai and Maui.
The only saving grace for me, about Oahu, was Pearl Harbor - that was important for me to see since both my Grandfathers served in WWII... my paternal Grandaddy in the South Pacific specifically.
The beach on Waikiki was very pretty but then again they ALL are in Hawaii!

Big Island!!!!
We were there for 8 days and there is a TON to do. We literally spent hours just driving half the island and stopping everywhere randomly to do whatever we pleased. It was amazing. Cows everywhere, so much farmland. You'd never think!

ITA with this! if you go to waikiki make sure you stop at leonard's bakery for the malasadas! so yummy!

Don't know about Big Island. we went to oahu twice with the kids, loved it but they were 5 and 9. there is a zoo and an aquarium within walking distance. Loved the beach they had it sectioned off so it wasn't too deep for the kids. they had mcdonalds, and other places to grab a quick bite for lunch withut having t go back to the hotel to get changes. Cheese burger in paradise was my favorite. at night they had a lot of activity on the strip people dressed up preforming ect... also there was a mall with a fish tank you cold walk through. We didn't do a lot of sight seeing we stayed mostly on the strip but the island had a lot of things to do if you rented a car.

I have been to both, and think it depends what you are looking for.
Waikiki is def like NY as previous poster said. But, there are still beautiful beaches and a lot to do.
Big Island is more "rustic" and has more of that Island feel.

Thanks we decided on the Big Island!!
Going from August 9th to 16th!
I'm excited to go but a bit terrified about flying to Hawaii with a 2 year old!!

When we went for our honeymoon, we spent time on both islands, with a stop in Kauai in between.
Waikki is like being in Manhattan. Very busy, party atmosphere, lots of people around. Where as the Big Island was much more family oriented, expecially where we stayed.
