Have I started a bad habit?? And how do I break it!!

Desperate times called for desperate measures and I am afraid I've started a bad habit.

A few weeks ago I started reading Heathy Sleep Habits, Happy Child and I came to the realization that DS was napping well or enough. SO, I started recognizing the sleepy signs and taking him to our room to nap. I have difficulties getting him to sleep (both at nap time and bedtime), so I started giving him a small (2 oz) bottle at nap time. At first formula but now water. I don't ALWAYS do it, but more often that I want to.

How can I encourage DS to soothe himself and not give him the bottle?

He is only 12 wks, and I think he's too young for CIO, and I am not ready yet for it.

PLEASE!!! TIA!!!!!!

If a bottle works, stick with it! That doesn't sound like a bad habit to me...

Maybe try a pacifier? That helps Emma fall asleep.

You probably shouldn't be giving him water unless he is constipated. Too much water can affect their potassium levels and it's really not necessary at that age.

I had tried the pacifier, but he pushes it out! He knows the difference!

He doesn't take the whole 2 ozs, more often than not, he barely gets any, just likes to suck. But won't take pacifier!

We use the pacifier they gave us at the hospital--when he DOES take it, that is the only one he takes. We've tried 2-3 other kinds, he wont even suck on it!

PACIFIER!

DS absolutely needs this to go to sleep. So whatever it takes for him to go to sleep I will do...
