Has anyone taken private photography lessons? Where to go?

Did any anyone take a private lesson(s) to learn photography? Like a one on one with your own camera.

Where did you go? Who did you use?

I already have a camera so I cannot get some free tutorial when you purchase a camera. I also don't want a 5 minute chat behind a counter. I don't want a class setting either. I want someone to look at what I am doing and guide me/tell me what I am doing wrong/right, etc....

TIA

I haven't taken them but if you're looking for private lessons, I'd go to Berger Brothers. I think Yvonne Berger is a very patient teacher.

If you want to see her teach to get a feel for her, she does do free classes at my library.

I've posted the photoshop elements class on the Crafts board.

I just looked. The class is tonight at the library. You may still be able to sign up.

Maybe you can get a one on one with one of our vendors?

Maybe contact them and see if one/they may have some time to set up with you and are willing to do that
and discuss a rate.

cant hurt to ask.

I may just contact her directly. I can't even make it to your library. Chat Icon Chat Icon I have to wait for DH to come home so I can never make it for any of the class times. Chat Icon And I love the photo classes at your library.

She will most likely know about my specific camera too.

Thanks!!!

I'd call there. The guy who sold me my camera would also be a great teacher but I don't know if he teaches privately. Just the tips he gave us in the course of the sale were great! He works for Berger Brothers.

What about contacting the local colleges (Hofstra or Adelphi) and seeing if any of the professors would give you a lesson or maybe one of the grad students would be willing to give some private lessons on the side.

you could also see if you could intern with a photographer, maybe that would work?

I've taken lessons from a professional photographer. Not so much one-on-one, but in a very small group, like 3 or 4 of us. Her and her DH are amazing! I can let you know next time they have a session and take you along with me! Chat Icon

I am taking a photo class right now at NCC but I feel that while it's helping me with basic photography, I am battling learning photography AND learning about my particular camera. Right now, it's general information. Aperture, shutter speed, etc... It's not designed for MY particular issues and what "I" want to do. Why my pics are not coming out the way I want them? What did I do wrong? How could I have modified my settings, lighting, etc... to do what I wanted?

With time you will learn about how all of that translates to your specific camera.

She gives free classes at my library (Northport). I list the classes on the Crafts board. She also offers a free mini class on photography.

The advantage to having her one on one is she will teach to your camera.

Re: Has anyone taken private photography lessons? Where to go?

Neptune Camera has lessons
They are in Garden City - they charge $65./ hour for a private lesson.

I went there the other day to buy a case for my new DSLR and I saw a sign on the front door.

Also, my friend is a Canon rep and he teaches classes @ B & H and Adorama. It's more a refresher class on how to use the camera, shooting in RAW vs Jpeg, and more. If you have Canon it may be helpful.
