Has anyone ever participated in a focus group and gotten paid for it?
i am doing my first focus group next week for a company called great opinions. has anyone ever done this? i was told i will get paid in cash. do they 1099 you at the end of the year? what company do you use?
for those of you who don't know what a focus group is.....it is a round table discussion where companies ask for you opinions and pay your for it. they pay you in cash.

yes and I never got a 1099
just cash...nothing else
the most I made was $300 for a lux SUV focus group that was 5 hours
the SUV invited me b/c of the SUV I had (a competitor)
but I have done other ones with a company in Westbury- I forgot the name

Straight up cash. I used to do them all the time. Interesting tip I discovered-- get there as early as you can....they always overbook because people normally don't show at the last minute. If everyone does show though and they are too full and you were the first one there, they'll send you home but still pay you in full. So you get paid for literally doing nothing.

my XH did a few for the company i was working for at the time. he got paid for his opinion on the medications he was already taking and i got a finder's fee. it was perfect.
i think he made about $200 and i got a $50 gc
no 1099

I did alot of them in college - my friends aunt ran alot of them. So she would give us the lists of upcoming ones & we'd choose which ones we were interested in.

I've done a few of these and it was always cash or once i got an amex gift card
i work in advertising so i'm not supposed to participate, but i used to lie and do them anyway to get some money
btw.. if you ever get those annoying phone calls of people doing surveys, or stopped by someone on the street - just tell them you work in advertising and they'll leave you alone

I did. for an ad agency a few years ago for an EPT product.
it was fun, and for $100, pretty painless. I don't recall ever getting a 1099.

Yes, I participated in one for a reading incentive program for elementary schools. Like everyone else, I received cash and did not fill out a 1099.
