Is it a room or area you can block off? We did almost our whole house ourselves before we moved in - we still had an apartment lease so it was great that we could leave and not have to be in the mess.

The dust from the sanding of the spackle is crazy. If I had to live here during that with my asthma i"m not sure that I could have done it.

If you can double seal the room or area off, you should be fine.

We also did this. We wore masks and gutted the whole house ourselves.

We paid someone else to put up all the sheetrock and spackle and sand...what a mess!!!

We weren't moved in yet.

we did this ourselves to a lot of the rooms in our house. Very messy!! Dust all over, but it looks so much better now. It's definitely a 2+ person job.

We did everything but our bedrooms. It was a dusty mess. We put heavy plastic over the br doors to keep the dust out but it was still everywhere. It can be done but it very messy Chat Icon

If you want the ceiling done, it gets harder if you don't have the right tools.

Otherwise walls aren't too bad, but the sanding is annoying

We did it... took a few days. We did it in our kitchen so we just closed off that area. YES, it gets VERY dusty so you may want to invest in an industrial vacuum.

I realize this is an old thread. But can someone give me an idea of how much something like this would cost?

We ripped our whole house apart...thank god we didnt live there during it. With all the dust from the sheet rock, the sanding of the spackle, the cement on the floor.....

It was bad and unliveable

I am actually living through this right now and so far it hasnt been terrible
the contractor we hired is really inexpensive compared to what I thought it was gonna cost.
