Has anybody heard of a this? It completely fascinates me!
I was reading in a magazine where there are actually trained women to help new mothers out in day-to-day stuff. They are actually there to help new moms out with day-to-day chores like laundry, holding the baby, doing dishes, vacuuming, anything needed. It's not a maid. They are actually trained and certified.
They are typically moms of older children that know exactly what new moms need. Once their own kids are in school they have their days 'free' to help other moms. I read they are in Texas, but wasn't sure if anybody had heard of anything like that around here. It's exactly what I need! It's also something I'd be interested in doing later on in life! I think they are called post-natal doulas.

I was watching an episode of Bringing Home Baby and they had this....it was well to be honest ...odd to see. It was like a very eager mother of the new mother

I can see it being odd, but we don't know anybody out here. I would give almost anything for somebody to help fold the laundry and put it away, or help around the house for those pesky little things that really add up. I guess a lot of people have family near them to help. I wish.

My mother was just here for 2 weeks cleaning up after me. She was gone for 15 minutes last night and I already missed her. IT is the best!!!!!!!!

Yes I've heard of them - and have vowed to DH that is we have a 2nd I will be getting one.
I think they are fairly popular in NYC...my doula was also an at-home doula.

I've heard of them, and I think they are very useful if you have the money. They basically do what ever you need - if you need them to cook, they cook, if you need them to clean, they clean... etc.
I think especially for those that can't get any help from anyone - they are a life saver - again if one can afford them.
