Gymnastics or dance for a 3 year old girl?

I'm torn what to sign her up for when she turns 3. She's not petite and far from graceful so I keep thinking gymnastics, but I was always a fan of dance! I don't want to do both (don't have the time or funds) and I'm hoping to keep with whichever one we do (assuming she likes it.) Any input????

Thanks!

I went with dance only because thats what we did and it was much cheaper (by almost half the price) than gymnastics.

As a dance teacher I can tell you honestly that at 3, it doesn't really matter which one you choose. You should really go by how structured/unstructured the classes are and what type of environment you feel she would do best in. Is one class longer then the other? Will she do better on a longer/shorter class time? Is it a drop off activity or do you need to stay? Those should be more of the deciding factors. And just so you know, both classes will help her with balance, muscle control and cognitive skills.

So glad you asked b/c I was going to ask this myself. We want to do one or the other for Ellie this fall and I'm undecided. She loves to pretend she's a dancer but she also hangs from every thing she can find so I feel like she'd love either one but can't afford both.

we went with dance...
#1 because I was very involved as a kid and I hope she will be tooChat Icon
#2 it is MUCH more affordable than gymnastics
#3 she asked to go to ballet.Chat Icon

I kind of feeling I got the best of both worlds though because the class she is enrolled in for Sept is 25 min ballet, 25 min tap, and 10 min tumbling so she can atleast get a small taste of gym type stuff.
