great news!! (eating related)

im so happy! finally, at almost 10 months, DS was able to eat Cherrios!!! Its been a long road. Anything with texture or anything that wasnt puree would make him gag/vomit Chat Icon it was really beginning to stress me out but the fact that he was able to eat cherrios with gaging really gave me some confidence that he will not need any sort of eating intervention and he will pick it up on his own Chat Icon Chat Icon

we did try a stage 3 fruit the other night and he didnt tolerate it but i've read that many babies react this way to stage 3's?

So, what is next after cherrios? He has had puffs and mum mums Chat Icon

is pastina a suitable next step?

AHHH im breathing a sigh of relief today Chat Icon

We skipped pastina - IMO, it's too tiny and hard for them to pick up. I give her regular pasta, overcooked a bit, in little pieces. I would also do mushy veggies - steamed broccoli and cooked potatoes are good options Chat Icon

Re: great news!! (eating related)

DD had a few texture issues at first too.
I just had to keep trying and see what worked for her.

she HATES pastina..the texture just doesn't work for her. couscous too. But she loves rice and orzo..Chat Icon

I give regular pasta..either cut up or Barilla Piccolini peices. She also loves peas & carrots..I get a frozen mix at the grocery store and steam or sautee them and she likes that she can self-feed and they're soft veggies.

Hoorayyy for Jack!! That's awesome news!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I think pastina is a great next step to try. I always make it in chicken broth and then mix it with a pureed fruit or veggie. It just adds a small amount of texture to the puree, but it can slide right down with it- no chewing involved. Also, how about small pieces of fruit? little slices of banana, dices of ripe mango, or blueberries cut in half or in quarters for him to feed himself? Let the fun begin!!

DS skipped stage 3 - it seemed to "confuse" him - almost as if "okay this puree stuff,I can handle that" then "wham, solid chunk...WFT mom?"

We went the smaill tolddler meals...ravioli, pasta/meatballs...

That's great news. i haven't given DS stage 3 but at this point he really eats mostly table foods. What about pancakes? DS LOVES pancakes.

Yay! DS was the same way - it's great to see them actually eat something.

I tried pastina but, it made DS gag - as well as stage 3 meals.

He did better with things he could pick up - I think when he sees things coming on a spoon, he anticipates purees so anything with texture threw him for a loop - especially pastina.

I found it helpful to have them work at daycare with him on table food - he eats a lot better for them than he does for us at home (I'm thinking peer pressure).

Yay, glad that he is doing so well!
I was going to try pastina soon, maybe I will hold off after reading this thread -- doesnt look too popular!

YAY JACK!!!!!

I haven't tried pastina, but DS loves regular pasta. I cook it a tad longer and cut into small pieces.

I also gave him shredded chicken in little pieces, boiled potatoes that I'd mash with my fork, he LOVED sweet potatoes too. I'd bake them, yum.

I agree with all of this. Pastina is definitely too small imo.
Also, neither of my kids would eat stage 3 baby food. We just skipped that all together.

Re: great news!! (eating related)

whoo hoo..

Stage 3..DS never tolerated that crap. I tried a stage 3 mac and cheese and I ALMOST GAGGED it was gross. anything with lots of chunk he didnt want. Stage 2 was fine..then we went to table food slowly and that was fine. I think it was after his 1st bday that we were starting table foods b/c he was so picky with the stage 3s. He wouldnt eat pastinas either, but regular pasta with sauce he eats like a champ.

Try the gerber puffs..they melt really easily in the mouth. DS loved them. NOw i give him KIX which he loves too.
