Got totally roped into having a houseguest - and I have NO ROOM!!!

Listen to this!!
I have a friend who lives in Florida and recently got married. DH and I went to the wedding and I know she was really touched that we came. I have been out of college almost 10 years already, but our sorority is having a fundraiser in NYC in Jan for alumni. So, I decided to go and emailed her the evite just so she could get a laugh. So, she calls me up, says, I'm online and looking at flights, and the prices are really good, so I am going to book it and we can go to the fundraiser together and I can just stay with you!! Now, she is NOT a pushy person at all, but I am on the other end of the phone like .
DH and I live in a 1 bedroom/converted studio TINY basement apt - with a cat and a dog!!! I felt like I couldn't say no, because it was like a done deal when she said it!!! We are going to have to put the dog at my in-laws for the weekend - because the dog will bug!!

I'm just flabbergasted right now and have no idea what to do with her!! If it was the summer, we could at least hang out at the beach and stuff - but it's JANUARY, it's cold, I don't even like to go out!! Plus - she's coming MLK weekend - and coming Friday night to Monday night - so this is my WHOLE 3 day weekend!!!
Ugh - just needed to vent! Thanks for listening!! Any suggestions on what we can do??

Can you call her back and just explain your situation. I think she was a bit rude just "inviting" herself.
Tell her she needs to bring an aero bed w/her.
Weekend plans: Maybe dinner and a show? shopping? Jan. is a tough month to plan for.

Well - she alreadyknows she's sleeping on the couch, but she's all excited about that because she's happy to come - which is sweet - but the situation sux!! I wish I still lived in my huge apt!!

Oh no !!! I have encountered this before - and the funniest part is the person has no idea at all that they are being rude - and you know they don't intend to be. Can you say that there is work being done on your apt MLK weekend ???? Or will she end up popping by anyway? I hate trying to come up with excuses. I guess you could always say the truth - there's no room. But then whenever I try to prepare myself to say something like that I always expect the other person to say "We'll make room"


Wish they had a good hotel in Long Beach. I know it would make my life easier come summertime when half the world comes knocking at my door.

As fun as it will be to see her I'm sure, I can see how its also stressful for you. Are there any other college friends she can "visit" and stay with while she's here?

Yes - it is my fault, because I didn't say anything when she called - but I was speechless! It literally happened in seconds, exactly as I wrote it before - she calls when she is ALREADY online booking the flight!!! Doesn't even say anything like ok - well do you want me to leave earlier on Monday or ANYTHING!!!

Well who knows maybe it will turn out to be an awesome weekend. And it will be fun to get ready with your girlfriend before going out, like you did in college.

I know we will have fun, but it's just going to be a very cramped and not too relaxing three day weekend!
