Good Sam visiting questions

Can someone who delivered at Good Sam shed some light for me? Especially if you had a c-section...

I am having a c-section on Monday morning at 7:30. Our parents (all 6 of them) want to be in the waiting room downstairs while I'm in surgery (which is not thrilling me, but there is nothing I can do about it). I know I'll be in recovery for a few hours before I gt to my room, at which point I will be able to hold her. Here are my questions:

1) When I am in recovery, will they be able to see her through the nursery window or will they only be allowed up there during visiting hours?

2) The day I deliver, will they limit my family to visiting hours or will they let them see us when I get to my room?

TIA

I believe the day of delivery they are more lenient... i didnt have a c section but i do know that they did say at the c section class that they were more lax on the first day

they are VERY lenient the day of delivery. I had a c/s at 12:30 at night and my babies wer ein the NICU and they allowed DH, my Mom, MIL and sister to all go into the NICU to see them, and they all stayed with me till about 3:30 am.

I don't have an answer for you - but, you made me think of something. I'm delivering at Good Sam (not sure yet if it will be a c-sect) but I have already told my parents that under no circumstances will anyone find out what the sex of the baby is before me, or, will they get to hold him or her...I probably sound like a b!tch with this, BUT, it's my first child...I can't imagine not having myself have these experiences before the rest of them. And I know if it does happen, I'm going to be broken hearted...

Re: Good Sam visiting questions

I had 2 c sections at good sam - while they are very lenient with visiting- they DO NOT let the babies out of the nursery until you are in your room. They bathe them and make sure they are at the appropriate temperature before they allow them out. In fact, w/ my second DD, I was in my room for about an hour before my DH was able to wheel her down to me. I delivered her at 8:00 am-ish and I didn't get to see her until around 12:30. Your family can look at them through the window of the nursery, but cannot take the baby out of the nursery. Only you and DH can do that by showing your bracelet (which will have matching numbers to a tag that is attached to a bracelet on your child's ankle). As far as knowing the sex of the baby, only you and DH are in the delivery room. So you will know first!!! Good Luck!

That is exactly why we didnt call anyone or tell anyone for five hours after ds was born.... i know when my parents came to visit that night (no we did not have people sitting in the waiting room since we didnt even tell people i was in labor) and they found out what time he had been born the were not happy but we didnt care... to this day i still cherish those hours we got to be with our son without anyone else to share... and it was nice because the ldr nurse actually said to us when i was trying to nurse "i am going to leave you two so you can have some family tme"..... i am still all about having the firsts first (dh is the exception ofcourse) and i dont care what my parents think....

Re: Good Sam visiting questions

I delivered DD at 7:39pm but due to complications, I didn't get to my room until 10pm. My family were all waiting in the lobby until her birth too! Once I was in my room, my family came to see me and when DH went to get DD, he was told that she was moved to the NICU. My family was able to walk down the hall to look at her thru the window, but that was it. The NICU has strict rules and only 2 people (one of them being a parent) can go in at a time. Unless your DH allows someone to hold the baby before you get a chance to, it will not happen. Tell your DH your feelings and make sure he implements the plan. The nursing staff was very lenient on the night of DD's birth, and my parents were in my room (I did not have a roommate) until about 12:30am. HTH! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Good Sam visiting questions

i had an extremely complicated c-section. the baby was delievered at 915pm. i dont think i made it to the recovery room till after 10. (i have no memory of anything after 915 they had to knock me out.) i was completely out of it and barely remember the recovery room its very blurry. but i do remember my husband being between me and the baby. my parents were in the waiting room and im almost 100% positive that they all walked to the nursery to see the baby through the window. they wouldnt let her out till i got to my room. i didnt get to a room till after 1am. my dh was there the whole time. and i dont actually remember coming too and seeing the baby till about 230am. and my husband and mother were both in my room with the baby by then.

as fas as visitng went they were very very leanient with the hours. DH was there till about 11pm all 4 days i was there. they never asked him to leave. we always had a packed room and the baby was with us from 9am-11pm

Re: Good Sam visiting questions

Thanks, everyone.

I'm actually not worried about anyone but DH holding her before I do. I just hope she comes out screaming so I can get a GOOD look at her in the OR before they whisk her away. Our families will be clamoring at the nursery window, but won't get to hold her.

We told everyone that once we get into a room, they will need to wait at LEAST a half hour so we can have some family time before they all hold her. If they don't like this, tough.
