Gonal f dosage question

Just started stimming with 300 iu of gonal f. I am little concerned dosage that it may be too high. I have unexplained infertility and I am 37. When I did multiple iuis, largest clomid dose I took was 100mg and had at least 2 or 3 eggs at that dose. So I thought they would start at a low dose and increase if necessary. Could it be that the doc wanted to start at high dose and decrease it later? Anyone know why they would start me at this dose? Of course I will ask the doctor at my next appointment. Thanks

Are you doing IVF or just injectibles?

When I did just injectibles, I started on 37.5 IU but they were using a low and slow protocol because I have polcystic ovaries.

How many days are you on 300 and when is your sono?

In my case I was on 800 units of Gonal F so really, the dosage is not that high! I wish you the very best...

Thanks for the quick responses. Sorry left out an important detail. I am doing IVF. I am taking 300 iu for two days and go for a sonogram. I read on another ivf forum that they usually start at a low dose like 75 iu and increase if necessary and got little worried. I dont have pcos. Thks

i havent done IVF but i need injectables just to ovulate.

i started follistim at 150ius every other day for 4 days. i overstimmed with 10+ follies. HOWEVER, the RE said had i been doing IVF it would have been a great situation. so i think for IVF since the goal is as many follies as possible that 300 isnt THAT high.

i actually got knocked down this cycle to only 37.5ius of gonal-f every other day due to my overstimming at 150. but once again its just to ovulate regularly, i only want one or two or MAX three follies.

When I took Gonal f, I always started high and then we reduced as the days went on.

That sounds about right for a dose - and if your doing ivf you want as big of a bang for ur buck. So the more eggies the better. I was on 375 for several days and then 500 for some so it sounds like ur right on track with the rest of us. As long as ur being carefully monitered then I wouldnt worry.
PS:I ended up making 32 eggs! 18 fertilized and ended up with 8 good hi grade embies at the end of it. So the more you have to start out with the more u increase ur chances to have a lot of embies to use.
The stimming /retreval etc is the most expensive part. If you end up with a lot of embies then using them up for follow up frozen transfers it reduces ur costs in the end.
Of course we all hope this will work for you the 1st time but jst in case its better to have extra on reserve.

Thanks everyone. I think I had my information mixed with dosage for IUI w/ injectibles. Went in for sono this morning, RE said there is a potenital for delveloping about 10 follicles. Guess I have nothing to worry about getting hyper stimulated. Thanks

I started on 675 iu of Gonal-f on my last cycle. I used 325 when I did IUIs, so I think this is a safe dose.
