Going on week 3 of this....don't know how much more I can take...

Ever since Gavin hurt his finger....the one he sucks on to sleep....he has been a nightmare during the night.
He wakes in the middle of the night, moaning, which works its way up to wailing.....then screaming. All this while he is still laying in his crib all curled up, the way he sleeps.

I'm pretty convinced that without his finger sucking habit that he has no way of comforting himself, I am going out of my mind!!!!!!!!
He cries for HOURS.....I am embarrassed to say this....but because I cannot help him...I have resorted to CIO and use earplugs......

And you can't forget DH who lays next to me...
"Could it be from teething?" no
"Maybe he's sick?" no
"Should we give him some Tylenol?" no
"Maybe his diaper is full?"
JESUS CHRIST!!!!! ENOUGH!!!!!!!!

I need help...this goes on for HOURS every night....at this rate Gavin is DEFINITELY sealing his position as an only child.....Chat Icon

I feel your pain. I have a child that is not a good sleeper and even as she moves closer to being 3, she still wakes more often then not.

She did not respond to CIO and would cry for hours. Finally, I had to start using other methods.

If Gavin is going on more then 5 nights with hours of crying, I would suggest using another method other then CIO. Crying for hours in the middle of the night and then having to get up for daycare is probably wearing him out.

I know this may sound crazy....but any chance you can replace the thumb with a binkie/paci. "They" always say it's easier to get rid of the binkie vs a thumb anywayChat Icon GLChat Icon

I've been trying to avoid the bink but think I might have to give it a whirl....

That was going to be my suggestion too. I hope something works out for you all soon, it sounds like it's been a rough road Chat Icon Chat Icon

DS has a stuffed animal he loves, and he sucks on it like a pacifier. If he ever lost that, he would not sleep (which is why we have two of them). Did you try introducing something like that or a blanket?

My sympathies re: DH. Mine does the same thing, except if DS wakes in the middle of the night his immediate response is "I think he needs tylenol" before he goes to check on him or has any idea what's wrong! It's too funny, but not funny at all at 3 am.

He already has the blanket...the fingers would go right into his mouth as soon as he saw the blanket...no matter what time of day it was.....it was like an auomatic response.

Since he hurt his finger and couldn't suck on them, now it's like he never did it, which is good in one way, but now it's like he can't sleep well.
I hafta check to see if there's also more teeth coming in, but it is just coincidence that he has not slept well since he hurt himself......
