Going on a RC Cruise to Bermuda (first-time cruiser)..Any Tips???
We're taking the Explorer of the Seas out of Bayonne..I've never cruised before, so I'd love ANY advice from the cruisers out there. ...Especially from people who have been on this ship...things to do/avoid.
Any excursions you recommend while in Bermuda? TIA!!!

First off, you are going to love Bermuda. The beaches are beautiful, the people are so nice, and everything is so clean.
I have been on The Adventure of the Seas which is a very similar ship to theExplorer of the Seas. Also, I cruise a lot so I have a lot of suggestions.
First of all you should book any excursions you may want to take before the cruise. Just go on the RCCL website and book on there. You tickets will be delivered to your room and you won't have to wait on-line. Especially if you have a child with you.
When you get to Bayonne, you will need to check in and they are going to take your luggage from you. They bring it to your room, but it sometimes takes a few hours. Make sure you bring a carry on with bathing suits and anything else you may need.
The last night of the cruise, you will need to put your luggage outside you stateroom before bed. Again make sure you have what you need for the next morning, since you won't see your luggage until you get off the boat.
The boat is huge and has a lot to do. They have a separate pool area for young kids, one main pool for everyone and one for adults only. Usually if you have a child, the first seating for dinner is the best, since there are more kids at that one.
They don't take cash at all on the boat. You get a small credit card that works as your cash, boarding card, and room key. The only place that takes cash is the Casino.
You don't have to eat in the dining room for Breakfast, and Lunch. They have a full buffet by the pool which is open 24 hours. You can also get room service. It does not cost you anything extra, but it usually only has a few selections.
You usually have one formal night and one semi-formal. So make sure your DH brings a suit and you have a few dresses. On other nights, you just can't be in shorts and tank tops. My DH wears nice jeans with a collar shirt and nice shoes (No Sneakers). They tell you know jeans but no one listens.

Ginger pills- make sure you do not have any medications that you cannot take with it- ask pharmicist. They do not make you drowsy- and take away seasickness, buy them at vitamin store before you go, it is less $ then on the boat, walking shoes. I have never been on this boat, but we took a tour of the best of Bermuda and loved it. HTH Have fun and Bon Voyage!

I agree take some motion sickness pills you never know. Also you might want to get up early and put a towel or something on your chair if you want to sit by the pool. It gets crowded. Have fun!

Horseshoe Bay beach is the best beach on Bermuda in my opinion.
For an excursion, check out Hartley's Helmet Diving . Our ship (celebrity) offered excersions with him, so they might offer similar on your ship. If not I know you can contact him directly and not go thru the ship.

Explorer of the seas does not have an outside buffet (unless it is new from Sept. 2006). There is a 24 place in the Promenade though.

Agreed. We did not cruise but we honeymooned in Bermuda in 2006.
Do you know which port you will be coming in to? There's Hamilton and also St. George I believe. Hamilton is the hotspot for restaurants, shopping, etc. St. George was a half-day trip for us where we walked around and saw some historic sites, ate lunch, and that was it.
They also have Dolphin Quest where you can swim with the dolphins - that was an amazing experience. VERY pricey and you have to make reservations ahead of time. And although they take pictures of you the whole time, they ask for a lot of money for the CD with the images on it. Unless someone can come with you who isn't swimming with the dolphins and they have a good camera with a zoom lens.
The only other thing we did besides eat, shop, and go to the beach was have a couple's massage in Hamilton.
If you want touristy stuff like tshirts and hats to bring back, they have a ton of places. The best place we found was Riihiluoma's Flying Colours.
I hope you enjoy it! I know we did, immensely. Don't forget to turn your eyes to the sky and realize that it is a blue like you don't get to see here much. It's amazing how clear and clean the air and water is.

Usually the buffet is inside but on the same deck as the pool. I didn't mean a buffet next to the pool. I guess I worded it wrong. I have never been on Explorer of the Seas, but I was guessing it was similar to the ship I was on.
