Glen Oaks?

I stumbled across this co-op community today and it doesn't seem too expensive. But, I have a couple questions.

*How is the area, is it nice?
*What about the commute to the city, what train would you take?
*What school district it is in?
*Do you pay taxes and maintenance fees and are any utilities included in the maintenance?
*Are pets allowed (cats)?
*Is there a minimum downpayment?

I tried looking all this up, but couldn't find anything in my search. ANY info will help, thanks girls! Chat Icon

Re: Glen Oaks?

the area in my opinion is eh.. changing..

to the city- u can drive to floral park and catch that train - but you have to pay about 4 dollars a day for the meter
u can drive to douglaston or great neck too.

i think small dogs and pets are allowed.

was it langdale gardens?

there are quite a few co op communities..

good luck

Re: Glen Oaks?

I don't know anything about the condos or coops, but the area seems nice enough. I drive through there every day on my commute.

For the commute to the city, you might be better off taking an express bus - you are not too close to a subway or a RR station and parking near either one might present a problem.

Re: Glen Oaks?

I have friends who live there. They really like it there and from the times I have visited, the public areas are mantained very nicely.

They are located right off Little Neck Parkway and its very easy to get to. They don't commute to NYC, but if they did, they would get the LIRR at the Little Neck station.

I also think there is an express bus - QM1A that makes it's first pickup in Glen Oaks - but it's a long trip...I agree - the LIRR is a great alternative and the Port Washington line goes direct (no stop ever in Jamaica).

Re: Glen Oaks?

No nearby train station. You'd have to drive to Little Neck or Douglaston.

It is a great little community, but if you are looking for a great commute to the city - check out Bayside or Douglaston.

The co-ops are more expensive but may have a better resale value in that they are in close proximity to the trains.

I live in Glen oaks Chat Icon The area is certainly not "changing" it is a diverse area and has been for a very long time. It supposed to be one of the safest towns in the "city" . I moved here from N. massapequa a year and a half ago and I really like it . the commute to the city can be a little long, I would say an hour and 10 min. you could take the bus to the subway (E/F) . There is an express bus as well (QM1A) . The school district is 26. you can have pets, you have to put down 10%. The maints. includes taxes, gas, water everything except electric. hope I answered all of your questions!! oh and it's very convenient to the highways, cross Island and Grand Central Pkwy. oh, and the coop has 24 hour security which is always good!

ETA: the apartments themselves are someone small , I have a one bed w/ a dining room so we have enough space

I have to agree.
*The area is great..it is Queens, but borders Nassau County.
*One of the best elementary schools in the city.
*The LIRR is very close...either the Floral Park line, Douglaston Line or Little Neck.
*Express bus line is 5 minutes away
*Close to all the parkways

I think it's a great starter place. i don't live in Glen Oaks, but I'm in another development and I think they are great. It's a great community and so close to everything.

Did you check out the other developments in that area? There are a bunch of them near Glen Oaks

Re: Glen Oaks?

My BF lives in Glen Oaks. She loves it. It is a good community. Safe and very diverse. The board does allow pets (BF has an english bulldog) and the co-ops are well maintained. Easy comute to the city. She takes the LIRR from New Hyde Park b/c she drops off her son at her parents house but you could easily commute from the Floral Park, Douglaston or Little Neck train stations.
