gift idea for new PhD?
My brother will be getting his PhD at the end of the month and my SIL is having a party for him then. I want to get him something but have no clue!
My sister would go in on it with me. My only idea is an ipad but I dont think we can afford it. Maybe if my parents go in on it too. But any other ideas?
His area is international development. Thanks!

I like the portfolio idea. I used one everytime I went on an interview after I graduated.
My advisor also got me the Dr Seuss book "The places you'll go" and had my entire lab group sign it, which I thought was cute.

If a few of you can go in on an ipad, I'd go for that. When I got my PhD, my parents gave me one of those nameplates for your desk, with my name and "Ph.D." next to it. It's in my office right now and I love it.

Get him a monogrammed briefcase with high quality leather and put some customized stationary and business cards inside.
