Foster Care

Is anyone familar with how the Foster Care program works?
I am interested in taking in a foster chiild. . . but I'm not too sure how to go about it. Does anyone have any information?
1. Who do I contact?
2. Can I specify and age?
3. Is it hard to qualify?

It's been quite a few years but I was a social worker within a foster care agency.

1. Many agencies work with foster care. Two that come to mind are Little Flower Children's Services and Catholic Charities.

2. Yes, you can specify an age and sex. They will try to honor all request but may ask you to take children outside of your specifications. I would suggest being open to most age groups as you will be surprised at how amazing all these children are.

3. No, I don't think it's hard to qualify if you are "normal". You will have to go through a background check, home inspection, foster parent training and be subject to home visits and responsible for taking that child to any visits, doctor's appointments or therapy.
