Forest Hills/Metropolitan Avenue Restaurants?

My mom's birthday this weekend and my sister and I are taking her to do some fun crafty stuff on Metropolitan Avenue, right off of Woodhaven Blvd. I also want to take her to a nice lunch, nothing fancy, but something nicer than usual. I'm having a hard time finding restaurants over there since I don't really venture out that way too often. Does anybody have any recs for the area? TIA! Chat Icon

Dee's is exactly the kind of place I was looking for. Alberto's is a little too fancy, though I do love that place! Thanks!! Chat Icon

Have fun! What kind of crafty things are you doing around there? I used to live on Ascan Ave, right by Dee's, before DH and I got married. Just wondering what's going on in my old 'hood in the crafts category Chat Icon

I'm a little embarassed to say! lol! My mom used to take me when I was a kid to paint ceramics. Fun little cartoony stuff, but my mom would do Christmas ornaments and signs for the house and they came out AMAZING. She is really talented with arts and crafts. So they have a place like that on Metro. and I took my little cousin for her 7th birthday last week. But I noticed they had this huge gingerbread house and a few other Christmas houses. I know my mom would love to do it. So I'm taking her for some painting fun. I know we won't be able to finish it in one day, but I think that'll make it even cooler.

I know, we're a bunch of 5 year olds but it's so much fun! Chat Icon Chat Icon

You should check it out!! We had so much fun. The 7 year old slapped some paint on and was bored, meanwhile my sister, my SIL and I were sitting there meticulously painting ours. In fact, here I am, working on mine! Chat Icon

Ohhh right - I think I've seen this place...its close to Trader Joe's, I think?

In any event, have fun! I looked up their website and had flashbacks of birthday parties at Plaster Palace from when I was a kid. LOL!

Yupp, right by there. They used to be on Dry Harbor road- I think it's the same family that owns this one now.

I had my 7th? 8th? birthday there! Chat Icon Chat Icon It was Little Mermaid themed!

Jamaica Avenue, I think?

Man, I remember how that place smelled. LOL. Not in a bad way. In that "this brings me back to my childhood" way.

I never had a party there. Most of my friends had birthdays in the cold months so they all had parties there; my mom and dad preferred outdoor parties for me (summer birthday). Looking back, that was a good idea on their part...but at the time I was pizzed! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Haha, the grass is always greener! I would've killed for an outdoor party!!! But as a Thanksgiving baby, no dice!

What's the name of the ceramics place? I would love to go do this - bring me back to going to Plaster Palace when I was a kid. Hope you and your mom have fun!

Re: Forest Hills/Metropolitan Avenue Restaurants?

Not so much a "nice" restaurant (it's casual) but Garcia's on Austin is just awesome for Mexican food and the best frozen margaritas anywhere. Love that place.
