I have a Mac laptop, which I needed to have fixed. I took it to the Apple store a few weeks ago, and was surprised to see that there was one other person with a computer and many with iPod problems. DH showed me this article this morning. It was very interesting.

the genius bar @ the apple store is always backed up with people with iPod problems. Lets face it, not technology product is made to last forever- then how would the companies ever make money if people never replaced them?
Computers technically have a useful life of 3-4 years as well.
I've had my iPod for 2 years (3 this september) and it has had some issues but still works (i don't know how, the last time i really thought it was dead)...
My laptop I've had the same amount of time & it is hanging in there- I had to have the CD/DVD drive replaced but I had the AppleCare plan- i'm only hoping it doesn't blow up when my AppleCare is up this September!!!

It's funny- I think my first walk man was about $30 which was a lot for me then (I used baby sitting money to buy it) and it didn't last long. Now you're paying 10x as much for something that doesn't seem to last long either. Chat Icon

if you take care of it, it should last at least 2 1/2 years....

But it is total BS
