LI-DOG is very excited to announce that it is teaming up with Dog Run Dog, a Vermont-based company that sponsors competitive 10k and 5k races for people and dogs, to hold a Dog Run Dog Race and LI-DOG Walk for Dog Parks on Sat., Nov. 14th in Smithtown. The event, which is slated to begin at 8 a.m., will include men’s and women’s 10k and 5k races as well as a 1.5k Dog Walk for Dog Parks to benefit LI-DOG.

For years, LI-DOG has used the words, “Born to Run,” to promote the need for off-leash areas and increased access to parkland so dogs can get the exercise they need. What better way to highlight the meaning of Born to Run than to team up with an organization that promotes competitive races for people and their dogs!

We’ll need help, of course, to plan, promote and manage the event. Given that this is the first-ever Dog Run event on Long Island, we believe we can generate substantial interest in the event from businesses and the media. But, time is exceedingly short—just 6 weeks. Right now, we need people who can help:

- Promote the event to the media and the community

- Attract local sponsors

- Gather donations from local businesses for raffles and gift bags

- Provide course control on the day of the race; and

- Register runners and walkers on race day

If you’ve got experience or just want to help in any of these areas, please contact us at [email protected]. You can also let us know at an upcoming Yappy Hour or the October 8th LI-DOG Meeting at the Huntington Public Library from 7 until 9 p.m. More details are available at www.lidog.org.

To register to run in the men’s and women’s 10k and 5k races and for more information about Dog Run Dog, go to www.dogrundog.com. Click on Race Locations in the left hand column and look for the Smithtown race.
