Finding a church to christen your child?

My SIL wants to Christen her child but does not belong to a church.

If you are not a member of a church can you get your child christenend there? Do you have to do anything before it?

Since we moved to CT, we did not belong to a church right wayChat Icon
Bad i know..

We called the church we wanted to to join, the rectory and asked them to mail or where we can find a registration packet to become members. Usually they are in the vestibule of church or they can mail you one.

Once you are a member, you can start the paperwork for a baptism.

It was very easy to do.

I think it depends on the church....ours is pretty liberal and open - they don't ask many questions and you don't have to be a member. We had Emily christened right after we moved to town and we had "joined" the church but we never had to do any paperwork, etc. They never asked.

We didn't attend our church before we had Emily Christened. I just called and spoke with the father and it was very easy to set up. He was pretty open minded about a lot which was surprising becuase I know a lot of catholic priests are still very old-fashioned.

It is in Nassau county ... FM me if you want info on the church.

Melissa - we are in Sufflk County and I am sure she wants to do it closer to home, but I will let her know.

Thanks everyone for the info.

My children were christened in the same church I was. Even though I was no longer in the same parish as them.
But, if she goes into her local parish & tells them that she goes to church but, is not a member of any church they will allow her to use them. She might have to become a member. (keywords: YES I go to church. I just don't have the "official" church envelope)Chat Icon

We are not members of the church where Stephanos was Baptized. I just went to the church I wanted, filled out the paperwork, set a date with the priest and made a donation that day of his baptism. The church is in Syosset. Let me know if you want the info.
