fifth disease...freaking out

I teach preschool and found out today that there has been an outbreak of Fifth Disease at my school (and in the other schools in the community). Its so scary bc by the time the child develops the red rashes he/she isnt contagious anymore so its so hard to even tell if any of the children that I have been in contact with in the past few days have been exposed.
I called my doc and was told that my earlier blood tests show that i am NOT immune to it since ive never had it. my doc told me to stay out of work until the outbreak subsides. I am going for a blood test tomorrow to see if i got it by any chance in the past week...im so nervous!!!!

send lots of prayers my way....ill let you know what happens when i get my blood results back!

also-anyone been exposed while pregnant? if so, please share your experience with me!

I work part time in a Dr's office and was exposed to it early on. I freaked but my Doc told me the chance of me actually getting it from casual contact was pretty slim. Good luck!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I was told I lacked the immunity to this disease as well. Where is the outbreak? At least you caught it in time.

keep us up to date.

Seaford school district.
I teach at a private preschool, but a lot of my students have older siblings in the elementary schools where there is also an outbreak.

I "believe", but am not 100% sure, that you can have an immunity to it. I think there is a blood test to check...again I am not 100% sure...but maybe you can check with your dr.

Re: fifth disease...freaking out

I was around someone with fifth's disease and I did not know it. The doctor took a blood test and everything was fine. He said most ppl are immune to it. Good luck
